2TM2,3  "Przyjdz"

I 2tm2,3 (più conosciuti come Timoteus - in polacco: Tymoteusz) sono uno dei gruppi più originali e interessanti della scena polacca, non solo cristiana, ma anche secolare.
Il nome è tratto esattamente dal versetto della seconda lettera di San Paolo a Timoteo 2:3 – “Gioisci nel soffrire come un buon soldato di Gesù Cristo.”
La band si è formata nel 1996 come risultato della conversione alla cristianità (Chiesa Romano Cattolica) da parte di tre grandi musicisti: Tomasz ”Budzy” Budzynski (giunto da un progetto post punk chiamato Armia, Robert “Lica” Friedrich dalla band heavy thrash metal Acid Drinkers e Dariusz “Maleo” Malejonek dalla band hard rock grunge Houk). Nel 1997 è uscito il loro debutto intitolato “Przyjdz”.
L’album si apre con un duro intro, ‘Genesis’, che prepara la giusta atmosfera alla canzone successiva. Durante l’ascolto ci troviamo davanti a due opposte dimensioni: una severa, di toni triti di musica pesante e una mistica. Composizioni più dure sono principalmente ‘Magnificat’ e ‘Getsemani’. Entrambe le canzoni dipinte con influenze di tipo thrash metal.
La prima è una preghiera di esaltazione alla vergine Maria da parte di Luca 1:46-49: “Uwielbia dusza moja/Pana mego moc/Raduje sie me serce w Bogu zbawcy mym (L’anima mia glorifica il Signore e il mio spirito rigioisce in Dio mia Salvezza).” ‘Magnificat’ proposta da 2tm2,3 viene cantata da Lica, che prova a esprimere questa profonda adorazione mediante l’utilizzo di scream, colmi di libertà, immersi in un estasi di estrema gioia. La voce accompagna le turbinanti chitarre, che sebbene siano poderose portano pace e serenità. Nel frattempo sottolineiamo come Goehs suoni efficientemente la batteria.
Invece nella seconda canzone alle percussioni opera Stopa così possiamo gustare una diverso ma sempre convincente stile. La song ‘Getsemani’ vuole illustrare la sofferenza di Gesù Cristo nel Giardino degli Olivi con uno stile lugubre e psichedelico.
Le emozioni che il pezzo trasmette sono tetre, con bassi toni di chitarra che circondano tremanti la fiacca voce di Maleo come ombre oscure, che aspettano solo di attaccare il cantante. I versi tratti dalla Bibbia (Marco 14:34-41) sembrano essere ancora più precisi, eloquenti in questa interpretazione musicale: ”Smutna jest dusza moja az do smierci/Zostancie tu I czuwajcie ze mna/Ojcze, jesli to mozliwe/Niech mnie ominie ten kielich/Lecz nie jak ja chce ale Ty (La mia anima è profondamente afflitta, anche sul punto di morte. Rimane qui e rimane all’erta. Abba, Padre, ogni cosa è possibile per te. Porta via questa coppa da me. Ancora non per mio volere ma per tuo volere.” Si viene a toccare qui l’immagine della lotta con la natura dell’uomo, la paura dell’uomo con cui Gesù deve confrontarsi nel Getsemani.
Altri pezzi più difficili e interessanti sono ‘Kto nas odlaczy’ (Chi ci separerà), ’Uwiodles mnie Panie’ (Oh Signore, tu mi hai sedotto), o ‘Marana Tha’, dove i batteristi Goehs e Stopa suonano insieme proponendo così una linea ritmica formata da due percussioni.
Senza alcun dubbio, una delle caratteristiche più interessanti nella musica di Timoteus è l’utilizzo di molti strumenti folcloristici come l’arpa, la cornamusa, il flauto, il corno, che arricchiscono assolutamente il suono.
Il musicista responsabile dell’utilizzo di questo strumenti è Joszko Broda – la “montagna umana” dal villaggio Istebna. Possiamo osservare le sue capacità nella canzone ‘Jezus jest Panem’ (Gesù è il Signore) e nella canzone molto calda e melodica ‘Sluchai Izraelu’ (Ascolta Israele) con Tomasz Budzynski e Angelika Gorny alle voci.
La musica dei 2tm2,3’s è molto difficile da definire, possiamo consigliarla a tutti coloro che non hanno uno stile preferito e piace ascoltare di tutto. Gli stili sono molto vari, oscillano tra il metal, l’hard rock, il punk, il folk e anche il reggae o il jazz, e questo è anche merito del gran numero dei membri, ospiti e musicisti non permanenti nella band, che sono impegnano anche in altri progetti. Attualmente la band è formata da dodici persone. Dal punto di vista dei testi ci sono poche band che riportano puri messaggi biblici senza cambiarne l’interpretazione. Loro citano solo alcuni frammenti della Sacra Bibbia ma senza cambiare niente. Come del resto han detto in un’intervista: “la pura Parola di Dio colpisce più dell’uomo.”

Full name means exactly the verse from the St. Paul’s Second Epistle to Timothy 2:3- "Join in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus." The band was formed in 1996 as a result of conversion to Christianity (Roman Catholic Church) three major musicians: Tomasz ”Budzy” Budzynski from post punk project Armia, Robert „Lica” Friedrich from thrash heavy metal Acid Drinkers and Dariusz „Maleo” Malejonek from hard rock grunge Houk. In 1997 appeared their debut under the title “Przyjdz” (eng. Come).
The album opens by hard intro ‘Genesis’ which perfectly introduce true atmosphere of the record. During the listening we front two opposite dimensions: severe, hacking tones of heavier music with subtle, mystic however clearly tangible note. To heavier compositions primarily belong ‘Magnificat’ and ‘Getsemani’ . Both deeply draw influences from thrash. The first one is the exaltation’s prayer of Virgin Marry from Luke 1:46-49 : „Uwielbia dusza moja/Pana mego moc/Raduje sie me serce w Bogu zbawcy mym (My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour) ”. ‘Magnificat’ proposed by 2tm2,3 consists Lica on vocal, who tries to express this profound worship by tearing scream, full of freedom, immersed in ecstasy of extreme joy. The vocal accompanies whirling guitars, which although are ponderous, carry peace and serenity. Between the guitars efficiently glides Goehs behind the drums.
Instead in the second one the percussion operates Stopa so we can taste some variety of the drums. The song ‘Getsemani’ wants exhibit the suffering of Jesus Christ in Olive Garden cause is bleak and psychedelic. Gloomy, low tunes of guitars surrounds trembling, weak Maleo’s vocal as black shadows, which await only to attack the singer. Direct verses from the Bible (Mark 14:34-41) seems to be again more precise, eloquent in this musical interpretation: ”Smutna jest dusza moja az do smierci/Zostancie tu I czuwajcie ze mna/Ojcze, jesli to mozliwe/Niech mnie ominie ten kielich/Lecz nie jak ja chce ale Ty (My soul is deeply grieved, even to the point of death. Remain here and stay alert. Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Take this cup away from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”
It touches here the image of the struggle with human’s nature, the fear of man, which Jesus must confront in Gethsemane.
Other interesting hardier pieces are ‘Kto nas odlaczy’ (Who will separate us) ’Uwiodles mnie Panie’ (O Lord, Thou hast enticed me), or ‘Marana Tha’, where the drummers Goehs and Stopa playing also together in the same time so we have double rhythmic part with two percussions. It gives incredible, really impressive effect.
Without any doubts, the one of the strongest parts in Timothy’s music is using of many folk instruments like jew’s harp, bagpipes, salasnikov’s pipe, Jerosolima’s bugle, zurna o ocarina which absolutely enrich the sound. Here the person responsible is Joszko Broda - the mountain man from village Istebna. We can observe his feats between the others in a little gothic ‘Jezus jest Panem’ (Jesus is the Lord) and very warm, melodic ‘Sluchaj Izraelu’ (Listen Israel) with Tomasz Budzynski and Angelika Gorny on vocal.
The 2tm2,3’s music synonymously is difficult to define, so we address their art to everyone, who simply hasn’t own favorite stile and has pleasure in listen to everything. Tunes are really various, oscillate between metal, hard rock, punk, folk and also reggae or jazz, what is the merit of impressive number of members, guests and non-permanent members, daily holding their activity also in the other different projects. Currently the band consists 12 persons. Then from the lyrical part is one of the few bands speaking so extensively pure biblical message devoid of own interpretation. They quote only some fragments of Holy Bible but without changing of something. As they talk in one of interview “the pure Word of God strikes more than man.”
