I Creed sono uno di quei gruppi che lascia il segno da subito, un amore che nasce dal classico colpo di fulmine.
Nati nel 1995 pubblicano tre album, ovvero: "My Own Prison" nel 1997, "Human Clay" nel 1999 ed infine nel 2001 danno alla luce "Weathered" e di fatto nell'estate 2004 la band annuncia il suo scioglimento.
Scott Stapp il frontman dei Creed ha intrapreso la carriera solista mentre il resto della band (Mark Tremonti chitarrista e Scott Phillips batterista uniti a Brian Marshall bassista ex Creed) fonda gli Alter Bridge una rock band che ha pubblicato ottimi album.
Tornando all'album in questione bisogna dire che è sempre difficile dare un voto ad una raccolta, in questo caso ad un Greatest Hits.
Uscito nel 2004, questo lavoro raccoglie il meglio dei Creed, un gruppo fenomenale che in "soli" nove anni di vita ha lasciato un segno indelebile nella storia della musica. Ed ecco che ci troviamo al cospetto di una raccolta in cui rientrano i pezzi più significativi del gruppo, parliamo di brani a dir poco fantastici come 'My Own Prison', 'One', 'Higher', 'My Sacrifice' per citarne alcuni senza nulla tolgiere alle altre canzoni che nel loro piccolo son grandi perle.
I Creed, come detto sopra sono capaci di incantarti al primo ascolto grazie al loro rock che a tratti sfiora sonorità grunge (infatti molti accostano il gruppo al genere post-grunge...),una band che lavora bene, dove la voce di Stapp si intreccia con il resto degli strumenti, creando una miscela esplosiva.
Così si alternano brani "lenti" ad altri carichi di energia, ma allo stesso tempo dolci, un pò la caratteristica del gruppo: strofe calme e ritornelli grintosi; si può dire che questo è il marchio di fabbrica dei Creed, ciò li rende unici.
Bellissimi anche i testi; andrebbero citati un pò tutti ma ci limitiamo a 'My Own Prison' con le parole che terminano questa splendida canzone: "A sun that shines on only some / We the meek are all in one / I cry out to God / Seeking only his decision / Gabriel stands and confirms / I've created my own prison".
E che dire di 'What's This Life For'? dove il testo recita : "Don't say a last prayer / Because you could never find / What's this life for / But they ain't here anymore / Don't have to settle the score / Cause we all live / Under the reign of one king".
Pensiamo che ogni conclusione sia superflua; il Greatest Hist che ci troviamo ad analizzare è il miglior modo per scoprire questa band, per chi non la conoscesse. Tredici tracce che ripercorrono la strada dei Creed, una valutazione che è impossibile da esprimere con un voto.

Creed is one of the bands which left the sign since the beginning, a love which is born by the classic love at first sight.
Born in 1995 they published three albums : “My Own Prison” in 1997; “Human Clay” in 1999 and then “Weathered” in 2001 and during the summer of 2004 they announced their breaking up.
Scott Stamp the Creed’s front man started a solo career while the rest of the band (the guitar player Mark Tremonti and the drummer Scott Phillips together to the bass guitar player Brian Marshall, ex Creed’s member) founded Alter Bridge, a rock band which produced excellent albums.
Returning to talk about the album, we should say that is always difficult giving a vote to a collection, in this case to a "Greatest Hits".
Came out in 2004, this work gathers the best of Creed, an extraordinary band that in “just” nine years of career left an unforgettable sign in the history of music. And so now I am in front of a collection in which there are the most significant pieces of the band, I’m talking about fantastic songs like 'My Own Prison', 'One', 'Higher', 'My Sacrifice', just to cite some of them but also the other songs are big pearls.
Creed, as I’ve said before are able to enchant you at the first listening thanks to their rock that sometimes they skim grunge sonorities (in fact a lot of people associates the band to the genre post-grunge… ), a band which plays well, where the Stapp’s voice is interlaced with the rest of the instruments, creating and explosive mix.
So the "slow songs” are alternated to other songs charged of energy, but at the same time sweet, a little characteristic of the band: calm verses and gritty refrains; we can say that this is the Creed trademark, and it makes them unique.
Very beautiful also the lyrics, I would cite all of them, but I limit myself to the song ‘My Own Prison’ with the words which end this wonderful song: "A sun that shines on only some / We the meek are all in one / I cry out to God / Seeking only his decision / Gabriel stands and confirms / I've created my own prison".
And what saying about 'What's This Life For' ? where the lyric says: "Don't say a last prayer / Because you could never find / What's this life for / But they ain't here anymore / Don't have to settle the score / Cause we all live / Under the reign of one king".
I think that every conclusion is superficial, however this Greatest Hits it’s the best way to discover this band, for people who doesn’t know it. Thirteen tracks which follow the Creed career, a valuation that is impossible to express because the content of this production is really high.
