MORPHIA  "Frozen Dust"

Dopo aver recensito il loro ultimo lavoro "Fading Beauty", non vediamo l'ora di ascoltare quest'album, "Frozen Dust". Questo e' il loro terzo lavoro, rilasciato nel 2002 (dopo un DemoMCD e un CD), e risponde senza dubbio alle nostre aspettative.
Anche in questo CD i Morphia miscelano lente musiche melodiche con tempi piu' veloci, così come voci pulite da brivido e anche sussurri con profondi growl. L'album ci sorprendera' e ci porterà via il fiato come siamo abituati a fare con i Morphia.
L'inizio è lento , con l'intro della prima canzone 'The Sun'. La musica aumenta il carico emozionale e dopo un po' siamo circondati dal basso e dal growl, completamente trasportati nel mondo della band, aspettando per l'uscita del sole: "I let your warmth embrace me/It forms an auriol of light/In which evil cannot trace me/Returning to the dead of night."
La canzone successiva che possiamo ascoltare e' 'The Forest', incentrata liricamente sulla foresta della propria vita, con tutti i diversi punti di vista, estremamente personali che ciascuno di noi potrebbe trovare.
Poi passiamo a ‘Wicklow Mountain’, che è dedicata alla cultura celtica dell'Irlanda – possiamo notare che non solo nei testi ma anche nella musica vi sono contenuti dei folklori celtici.
La titletrack 'Frozen Dust ci trasmette il dolore e l'agonia che qualcuno puo' provare durante l'inverno della sua vita, esperienza spesso troppo ardua da affrontare.
Poi passiamo a ‘When Silence Fell’, basata sul silenzio dopo la fine del mondo: "What is silence like/When there’s no one left to hear it/ Armageddon’s bound to happen/Yet no one’s prepared to fear it/No one has made the difference/No one has made the change/Now smoke is rising/From our smouldering remains."
La canzone 'Again' afferma che la vuota vita che alcune persone vivono puo' essere troppo, facendoli sentire come se loro stessero lentamente morendo. ‘Long Lost’ inizia con chitarre acustiche e tastiera, dopo un po' si inseriscono anche la batteria e la voce. Poco dopo ci avvolgono chitarre elettriche e growl ed infine si sovrappongono chitarre più classiche e un affascinante recitato.
Questo brano ci dimostra come i Morphia cerchino sempre di differenziare e rendere i brani ricchi di variazioni e mai monotoni.
‘Forced to Obey’ ci narra dell'angoscia che una persona prova comincia a sentire delle voci, quando inizia la pazzia. I testi come la musica sono intrisi di paura.
L'ultima canzone 'Emptiness' inizia con una parola sussurrata... 'emptiness' e parla del vuoto lasciato dalla persona amata dopo la sua morte. Con questa frase... "Un luogo all'interno del mio cuore e' vuoto" termina un album che ci ha sorpreso positivamente dall'inizio alla fine.

After reviewing their later work Fading Beauty, we look forward to hear this album, "Frozen Dust". This is their third album, realeased in 2002, and it really comes up to our expectations. Also on this album they make sure to combine slow, melodic music with up-tempo, hard metal, thrilling clean vocals and even whispers with deep grunts. The album is surprising and breathtaking like we’re used from Morphia.
The start is slow, with the intro of the first song ‘The Sun’. The music swells and after a while we’re surrounded by bass music and grunts, completely brought into the world of the band, along with them longing for the sun: "I let your warmth embrace me/It forms an auriol of light/In which evil cannot trace me/Returning to the dead of night."
The next song we hear is ‘The Forest’, about the forest of one’s life, with all changes and different views one can find in there. Then we go to ‘Wicklow Mountain’, which is dedicated to the celtic culture of Ireland – we can hear that not only in the lyrics, but also in the music which contains some nice celtic folk throughout the song.
The titlesong, ‘Frozen Dust’, gives us an impression of the pain and agony someone can feel in the winter of his life, which can be too much to take. Then we go on with ‘When Silence Fell’, about the silence after the world’s end, when no one can hear it anymore: "What is silence like/When there’s no one left to hear it/ Armageddon’s bound to happen/Yet no one’s prepared to fear it/No one has made the difference/No one has made the change/Now smoke is rising/From our smouldering remains.
The song ‘Again’ states that the empty life some people live can be too much, making them feel like they’re slowly dying.
‘Long Lost’ starts with acoustic guitars and the keyboard, after a while joined by drums and clean vocals. After a while it suddenly turns in electric guitars and grunts, then it changes in lighter guitar and spoken text, after which it goes over in the guitars and grunts again. Morphia makes sure to put enough variation in one song for a whole album while it still fits together in this one song. ‘Forced to Obey’ tells us about the anguish one feels when one hears voices in his head. The lyrics as well as the music itself are full of fear.
The last song, ‘Emptiness’ starts with a whispered ‘emptiness’, swelling towards the song about the emptiness left by loved people who died. A place inside my heart is empty. This sentence ends an album which made us listen in amazement from beginning to end.
