Grandioso ritorno dei teutonici Seventh Avenue, che a distanza di un solo anno dall’acclamatissimo “Between The Worlds”, sfornano un'altra preziosa gemma di puro e incontaminato power metal di stampo chiaramente europeo, che trova in Helloween, Gamma Ray e Iron Maiden le guide ispiratrici.
Le dodici bellissime canzoni che compongono “Eternals” sono davvero dei piccoli gioiellini di heavy metal classico! Tempi power/speed di matrice helloweeniana, continui cambi di riff, ritornelli orecchiabili, assoli fulminei, intrecci di chitarra e una produzione con i fiocchi che porta la firma del produttore heavy per antonomasia, Sascha Paeth.
Rispetto agli album precedenti, quello che salta subito all’orecchio, è una maggiore crescita musicale e compositiva, i brani risultano più godibili e di gran lunga superiori ad episodi passati, oltre, sicuramente, al grande apporto di Sascha, che lavora su un sound molto anni ’90, pomposo e compatto come nei grandi dischi.
Per tutto il resto è la bravura dei quattro musicisti tedeschi ad emergere, soprattutto quella del leader fondatore Herbie Langhans (attenti perché non è il nome del maggiolino tutto matto) che mostra un grande carisma e una spiritualità marcata. Veniamo ora alla musica e al contenuto.
L’intro ‘Battle For Destiny’ apre l’album, in un clima che richiama quasi una sorta di guerra santa, una battaglia contro le forze del male per il bene dell’umanità, che culmina alla fine con un silenzio quasi spezzato e con l’inizio del brano seguente. La battaglia ha ora inizio!
E’ la volta della title track ‘Eternals’, speed song potente e aggressiva, caratterizzata da un incedere killer tipico ormai delle sfuriate power metal made in Germany, con doppia cassa a manetta, cori epici, refrain di facile presa e soli funambolici; insomma, una canzone solida che non scontenterà gli irriducibili seguaci del metallo classico.
L’infinito potere di Dio, l’eternità e le lotta contro l’oscurità sono le tematiche trattate ed esplicitate nelle bellissime lyrics, che si stampano in mente dopo un paio di ascolti: “On the first day of creation / There is only water everywhere / The raging ocean covers everything / And darkness engulfs the whole world / The power of God moves over the seas / Eternal holy spirit as the first on the earth / Before the creation of mankind / Satan was falling like lightning from the sky / He was thrown down to earth / And all his angels were fallen with him / With fierce in the eye and a spark of rebellion / They started to fight for the destiny of each soul / Eternal war / Eternal peace / Eternal life / At the end of days / These eternals are etched / Deep into the bones of this never mending world”.
‘Future Tale’, la terza traccia, percorre gli stessi registri del precedente episodio, e si pone in perfetto stile Helloween. Velocità, riff sempre presenti, melodia zuccherosa, ritornello happy sono le peculiarità contenute all’interno del brano, che fa azzardare qualche paragone di troppo con la band di Weiki e soci, pur mantenendo una propria linea e un sound molto personale.
Dopo le battute iniziali sostenute, è la volta dell’headbanging con il mid-tempo di ‘Raging Fire’, roccioso pezzo heavy metal che ricorda parecchio i Running Wild, in modo particolare nel cantato di Herbie che tratti somiglia davvero al piratesco Rock’n Rolf: uno degli esempi più significativi e completamente azzeccato di tutto il CD.
Dopo le song ‘Juggler Of Words’ e ‘Remission’, che viaggiano ancora una volta su territori power/speed tanto cari alla band, è il turno di un’altra bellissima canzone, probabilmente uno dei brani che potemmo benissimo inserire nella top 5 del disco, ‘Infinite King’.
L’ inizio immediato è caratterizzato da un crescente coro molto glam/hard rock anni ’80 quasi bonjoviano, che poi esplode in un altro grandissimo mid-tempo pieno di tanta energia e potenza, che certamente farà fuoco e fiamme dal vivo e non immagino quanto coinvolgimento possa dare. Un episodio che mette senz’altro in risalto le ottime qualità del frontman Herbie Langhans, sia dietro il microfono attraverso tonalità che vanno dalla timbrica di Kai Hansen a Kiske, sia come guitar hero con costanti cambiamenti di riff e assoli velocissimi.
Attraverso questa canzone, inoltre, il gruppo vuole rinnovare nuovamente la propria missione cristiana, evidenziando il potere del re infinito, Gesù Cristo, colui che domina il male, colui che tutto sa e che tutto può, e questo è quanto riportato nei versi del testo: “Everything upon this planet / Creatures under the heavens span / Evidence for your endless power / Part of your masterplan / In this gallery of creation / The exhibition is just perfect / Mighty creator of all the heavens and the earth / Infinite king the satan gives you a wide berth / With hearts on fire our tongues are giving / Cheers to you, almighty Lord! / Shout it out! / He is the king / Peace and justice he will bring / Burning hearts / Tongues of fire / For his name”.
Si torna a saltare con la scoppiettante e scatenante ‘Storm III’, bellissimo brano strumentale tipicamente heavy, che nonostante la mancanza di una linea vocale, riserva al proprio nucleo numerose variazioni: riffate killer, melodie armoniose dal sapore divino e soli memorabili soprattutto nella parte centrale del pezzo che decorano e completano alla perfezione uno tra i più felici capitoli del lavoro.
La successiva traccia è ‘Hunger For Life’, ulteriore esempio di come deve essere suonato il classico power metal tedesco. Inizio quasi in sordina, con un intro che fa preludere quasi ad una ballata, ma che invece dopo quasi due minuti prorompe in un ennesimo terremoto speed con doppia cassa ad elicottero, sfuriate di chitarra e un ritornello indimenticabile.
Il disco volge al suo epilogo con la ballad ‘Voices’ che risente molto dell’influsso hard rock anni ’80 (a tratti sembra di ascoltare i Def Leppard o gli Skid Row) e con la conclusiva acceptiana ‘Domination Of Sin’ altro must del CD.
I Seventh Avenue album dopo album stupiscono sempre più e dimostrano essere una realtà solida dell’heavy metal europeo più classico, nonché massimi rappresentanti del tramite cristiano in terra teutonica.
Pur non apportando alcuna novità ad un genere così tanto abusato come il power, sfornano una prestazione da incorniciare e si proiettano tra le band più importanti del settore.
Questo lavoro è un concentrato di vero metallo!

Majestic return of the teutonic Seventh Avenue, that at the distant of just a year from the praised “Between The Worlds”, they released another precious gem of pure and uncontaminated power metal of european matrix, which found like inspired guides bands like Helloween, Gamma Ray and Iron Maiden.
The twelve beautiful songs which formed “Eternals” were really little jewels of classic heavy metal! Power/speed times of “Helloween” matrix, continuous changes of riffs , catchy refrains, flash solos, interlacements of guitar and an excellent production which took the sign of the heavy producer for antonomasia, Sascha Paeth.
In comparison to the previous albums, what we can suddenly notice, it’s a major musical and constituent growth, the songs resulted more enjoyable and better to the past episodes, other than, surely, the big supply of Sascha, who worked on a sound like the one made in 90’s, pompous an compact like in the great albums.
All the rest is the cleverness of the four german musicians to emerge, above all the one of the founder leader Herbie Langhans (be careful because it’s not the same protagonist of the movie “The Love Bug” by Walt Disney) who shows a big charisma and a marked spirituality. Let’s come right now to the music and content.
The intro ‘Battle For Destiny’ opens the album, in a climax which reminds a sort of holy war, a battle against the powers of evil for the goodness of humankind, which culminates at the end with a silence almost broken and the beginning of the following song. The battle now begins!
It’s the time of the titletrack ‘Eternals’, speed song powerful and aggressive, characterized by a solemnly and killer walking just typical of the outbursts power metal made in Germany, with a double fast case, epic chorus, refrains of easy taking and acrobatic solos; in other words, a solid song that will not make unhappy the irreducible fans of the classic metal.
The never ending power of God, the eternity and the challenge against the darkness are the themes discussed and explicit in the wonderful lyrics, which are printed into the mind after a pair of listening : “On the first day of creation / There is only water everywhere / The raging ocean covers everything / And darkness engulfs the whole world / The power of God moves over the seas / Eternal holy spirit as the first on the earth / Before the creation of mankind / Satan was falling like lightning from the sky / He was thrown down to earth / And all his angels were fallen with him / With fierce in the eye and a spark of rebellion / They started to fight for the destiny of each soul / Eternal war / Eternal peace / Eternal life / At the end of days / These eternals are etched / Deep into the bones of this never mending world”.
‘Future Tale’ , the third track, covers the same ranges of the previous episode, and it puts itself in Helloween perfect style. Speed, riffs always present, sugary melodies, happy refrain , are the characteristic contained inside the song, which makes hazarding a guess of comparing with the band of Weiki and company, despite it maintains an own line guide and a very personal sound.
After the initial and sustained beats, it’s the time of headbanging with the mid-time of ‘Raging Fire’, rocky piece of heavy metal which reminds a lot Running Wild band, in particular manner in the way of singing of Herbie that sometimes it is really similar to the piratical Rock’n Rolf: one of the most significant examples and completely guessed in all the CD.
After the songs ‘Juggler of Words’ and ‘Remission’, which have a power/speed connotation so dear to the band, it’s the turn of another beautiful song, probably one of the songs that we could insert to the top five of the disc, ‘Infinite King’.
The immediate beginning is characterized by a growing chorus very 80’s glam/hard rock almost in Bon Jovi style, which explodes in a big mid-time full of energy and power, that certainly will be exciting at live concerts and I don’t imaging how much involvement it could give. An episode that brings out the excellent qualities of the frontman Herbie Langhans, as behind the microphone through the tonality which goes from the tone of Kai Hansen and Kiske, as like guitar hero with constant changing of riffs and fast solos.
Through this song then, the band wants to renew again his Christian mission, underlining the power of the infinite king, Jesus Christ, able to dominate the evil and the one that everything knows and everything can, and this is written to the verses of the lyric: “Everything upon this planet / Creatures under the heavens span / Evidence for your endless power / Part of your masterplan / In this gallery of creation / The exhibition is just perfect / Mighty creator of all the heavens and the earth / Infinite king the satan gives you a wide berth / With hearts on fire our tongues are giving / Cheers to you, almighty Lord! / Shout it out! / He is the king / Peace and justice he will bring / Burning hearts / Tongues of fire / For his name”.
We return to jump with the crackling and wild ‘Storm III’, beautiful instrumental song typically heavy, that despite the missing of a vowel line, it reserves to its core a lot of variations: killer riffs, harmonious melodies with divine taste, and memorable solos above all in the central part of the piece which decorate and complete with perfection one of the most happiest chapters of the album.
The following track is ‘Hunger For Life’, another example of how it must be played the German classic power metal. A beginning almost mute, with an intro which makes precluding a ballad, but that then almost two minutes it bursts in an umpteenth speed earthquake with a double case, outbursts of guitars and an unforgettable refrain.
The disc turns to his epilogue with the ballad ‘Voices’ , which feels a lot of the 80’s hard rock influences (sometimes it seems to listen Def Leppad or Skid Row band ) and with the conclusive ‘Domination Of Sins’ (in Accept band style), another song to listen of the CD.
Seventh Avenue band, album by album, impresses more and more and they demonstrate to be a solid reality of the most classic European heavy metal, and best representatives of the Christianity in the Teutonic land.
Despite they don’t show any news to a genre so much played like power metal, they show a performance to frame and they are projected among the most famous bands of the sector.
This album is a concentration of real metal!
Fundamental for all the true heavy metal freaks!
