HOLY CROSS  "Medieval Heart"

Gli Holy Cross vengono da San Paolo (Brasile). La band è formata da 3 persone: il batterista Emerson Olaf, che ricopre anche il ruolo di cantante principale, Bruno Zubi , chitarrista e seconda voce; infine il terzo membro è il bassista Vynill. Per un breve periodo ha fatto parte della band anche Gabriela, come tastierista.
Nel 2002 il gruppo ha realizzato il suo DemoMCD intitolato “Medieval Heart” , che contiene tre tracce. La musica ivi contenuta ha radici riverse. Prima di tutto si può sentire l’influence del power metal, mescolata con lo stile gotico e folk.
La canzone che apre questa registrazione è piena di dolci melodie. Bei suoni di chitarra e percussioni ritmiche rendono i toni gioiosi, specialmente allegro è il coro, rappresentato dalla voce pulita di Emerson: “This Land serves The King of Eternity / It was and it will be / Our faith will bring us victory / Every man will see” Si vede che il tema principale del titolo è epico. Il testo parla dei guerrieri cristiani: ”The hearts are burning fire / The time now has come / We are not afraid to die /The bards will sing our song / We run and rise the swords / Men, iron and blood in everywhere(…).”
La seconda traccia ‘Medieval Heart’ ha una più chiara influenza gotica. Inizia con suoni delicati di chitarra e tastiere. Poi si aggregano anche la batteria e la voce. Interessante scoprire che è qui che le strofe sono cantate lentamente, ma con una voce forte e risoluta, che sembra un po’ teatrale e fornisce un effetto maestoso.
Nel coro possiamo sentire una piacevole connessione tra queste due voci pulite: più alta e più bassa davanti a uno sfondo melodico. Anche i testi sono belli. Mostrano una forte fede basata sul potente Signore sull’esempio dei tempi dell’inquisizione: “God I pray everyday, all the words I could say / From this cage my soul must now be free / God I pray everyday, all the words I could say / Trust in You is all I can”.
L’ultimo brano, ‘True Faith Not Religion’, è interamente strumentale. Possiamo trovare una buona esecuzione per ciò che riguarda le tastiere, mescolate ai suoni della pioggia che cade e della tempesta.
Viene inserito uno spirito folk nei toni e viene presentata tutta la canzone in una buona luce, sebbene questo sia anche il pezzo più breve.
La musica degli Holy Cross la consiglierei a un gran numero di fan perché unisce molti stili. Ma prima di tutto a tutti coloro che adorano il gothic e il delicato power metal.

Holy Cross comes from Brazilian Sao Paulo. The band create three persons: the drummer Emerson Olaf, who plays also the role of main vocalist, Bruno Zubi as the guitarist and second vocalist as well; the third member is bassist Vynill.
For short period there was also presence of Gabriela as keyboards-player but she left Holy Cross. In the year 2002 group released their DemoMCD titled ”Medieval Heart”, which contained three tracks. The music has many roots. First of all it hears influences of power metal, mixed with gothic style and folk.
The song which opens this record is full of sweet melody. Nice sounds of guitar and rhythmic percussion put the joy into the tunes, especially happy is the chorus, sang by the clean vocal of Emerson: “This Land serves The King of Eternity / It was and it will be / Our faith will bring us victory / Every man will see” It sees that lyrical theme of the title is epic. The text tells about christian warriors: ”The hearts are burning fire / The time now has come / We are not afraid to die /The bards will sing our song / We run and rise the swords / Men, iron and blood in everywhere(…).”
The second track ‘Medieval Heart’ is clearly more influenced in gothic. It begins with delicate guitar and keyboard. Then join the drums and appears vocal’s line. Interesting to discover is here that strophes are singing by low, stout voice, sounds a little theatrical and gives good, pompous effect.
In the chorus we hear nice connection these two clean vocals - higher and lower, in front of the melodic background. Lyric is beautiful as well. Shows strong faith grounded in Mighty Lord on example from inquisition’s time: “God I pray everyday, all the words I could say / From this cage my soul must now be free / God I pray everyday, all the words I could say / Trust in You is all I can.”
The last title ‘ True Faith Not Religion’ is properly instrumental. Here we can find good exhibition of keyboards mixed with sounds of falling rain and storm. It puts folk spirit into the tunes and presents all the song in good light, although if it’s the shortest.
The music of Holy Cross I should recommend to wide gammas of fans because it joins many styles. But first of all to every adorers of gothic and “shy”, delicate power metal .
