ITALIAN VERSION

I Megilloth nascono nel 2006 nel sud della Russia. La scelta del nome Megilloth è stata influenzata dalla canzone “Scrolls of the Megilloth” dei Mortification. Attualmente il gruppo è formato solo da due persone: Vyacheslav “Kamar” Kamarzaef, bassista e cantante, e Piotr “Frankie” Varlamof, chitarrista e compositore. Il loro demo intitolato “Anguish Inhabitants” è composto da tre canzoni in puro stile death metal.
L’opener, “Farewell A False Paradise”, inizia con un basso suono di chitarra e batteria, che bussa alle orecchie dell’ascoltatore come in impaziente attesa che qualcuno apra la porta per poter entrare con furia. Quindi i toni della chitarra iniziano a scorrere su e giù lungo la tastiera mentre il tempo dettato dalla batteria aumenta di intensità e parte il cantato in growl.
Nell'esecuzione della canzone la voce alterna tra un oscuro sussurro ed un debole urlo, che ricorda lontanamente lo stile degli americani Zao. Nei ritornelli ascoltiamo un bel cantato pulito che illumina la melodia, mentre il suono inizia a scaldarsi grazie anche alle parti di basso, in particolare quando chitarra e batteria si fermano per pochi istanti.
La canzone successiva, intitolata “Forever Alive” inizia veloce, con alti riff di chitarra che lasciano spazio alla timida entrata delle percussioni e del basso. La musica acquista sempre più dinamismo e la chitarra torna su toni bassi ma non troppo grezzi. La canzone risulta anche sembrare più allegra e melodica. All’interno della canzone il cantato pulito si sente più spesso e ben si amalgama con lo growl tipico del death.
Il titolo dell’ultima canzone “And For You Too” fa pensare ad una melanconica ballad metal. La canzone è aperta da soffici melodie di chitarra e basso. La musica è chiaramente triste, lenta e ci porta a riflettere. Le corde della chitarra risuonano all’unisono con il tempo del brano, producendo alti e duri riffs in tipico stile hard rock. Nella canzone domina completamente ed in maniera stupenda il cantato pulito. Verso la fine, il ritmo della batteria si velocizza ed il cantante passa ad una interessante recitazione, che sottolinea la profonda armonia interiore e lascia l’ascoltatore ai propri pensieri cosicchè quando finisce sente il bisogno di ascoltarla nuovamente.
I testi delle canzoni trattano il tema della dimensione della vita dopo la morte. Cristo ha sconfitto la morte per salvarci, ma anche la vita sulla terra è eccezionale e non dovremmo distruggerla per vivere iniquamente senza le regole di Dio: “We’ll never die an never put to death / We live the life and take every breath / Salvation of Jesus Christ is out of my mind / We put faith in Our Lord for us he was crucified /(…) When the flesh turns into dust, the soul doesn’t vanish as well / there’s no reincarnation a person may hope / Get as only one chance the only lifetime that’s like a fuse too short.”
Il percorso della vita terrena è pieno di dolore e non è per nulla facile, ma conduce al Paradiso, mentre la facile strada del folle orgoglio conduce all’inferno: ”Time is the thing we are given to pray for mercy! / Deceived ones spend it to compete in pride / All humans kindness hates the narrow path of thorns / There’s only the hell ahead where one only way is wide.”
Come già scritto, i Megilloth sono death metal, ma si allontanano dai tipici suoni brutali e crudi, rinunciando alle linee vocali troppo aggressive. Il gruppo ricorda nello stile death la band scandinava Schaliach, ma possiamo anche notare influenze da Extol, Lengsel o Ganglion. Sebbene le persone a cui piace il death tipico, diretto potente e con più furia vocale possano sentirsi un po’ spiazzati durante l’ascolto dell’album, il resto a cui piace la parte più “soft” del genere ricca di “calde” melodie troveranno il disco certamente interessante.

The band Megilloth has formed in 2006 year in south of Russia. This name arisen under influence of Mortification’s song ‘Scrolls Of The Megilloth’. At present group includes only two persons: Vyacheslav “Kamar” Kamarzaef, who plays bass and sings and Piotr “Frankie” Varlamof as the guitarist, songwriter and also he’s responsible for sampling. On the DemoMCD of them under the title: “Anguish Inhabitants” we can listen three songs in death metal style.
First track ‘Farewell A False Paradise’ starts with low sound of guitar and drums, which knocks on the ears of the listener to let the music come in.
It seems that instruments stay behind the door and impatiently await that someone will open. Then tones of guitar wanders along high and low chords. Tempo of the drums goes faster and enters the hoarse vocal. In one moment during the song, voice changes to something between dark whisper and weak scream, what remember a little style of American group Zao. When we draw near we can hear nice clean vocal in the refrains, which puts bright colors to melody. Sound takes the warmth also through the parts of bass. Especially when the guitar and the drums calm itself for some seconds.
Next song called ‘Forever Alive’ begins quick, high guitar’s riffs and after shyly enters percussion with bass. Then music takes more dynamism and guitar returns to low tunes but not so rough. It seems also more happy and melodic. Within this title clean vocal appears ofter and complements good with death scream.
Last title ‘And For You Too’ remembers atmospheric, metal ballad. On beginning we can hear soft melody of guitar and bass. Music is clearly sad, slow and drives to reflection. Calm pulling the guitar’s strings interlaces with electric beats. We can find also high, strong riffs here in hard rock style. Song is totally dominated by clean vocal, which sounds very beautiful. In the end, during the faster rhythm of drums, vocalist made interesting recitation by his voice, which just underlines profound harmony inside and moreover leaves the listener with his own thoughts, so he is surprised that it’s finish and need to play this song again.
Lyrical themes touches dimension of life after death. The path of life on the earth is also full of pain and not easy, but leads to heaven, and the wide path of foolish pride leads to hell: ” Time is the thing we are given to pray for mercy! / Deceived ones spend it to compete in pride / All humans kindness hates the narrow path of thorns / There’s only the hell ahead where one only way is wide.”
As it was written, Megilloth represents death metal, but it’s not so brutal and raw in sound. Also the vocal line isn’t aggressive. Just this group remembers more death in style which has for example Scandinavian band Schaliach. We can meet also some influences of Extol Lengsel or Ganglion. Although people who prefer typical death potency with more furious vocal can feel a little deficit during listening this record, all the rest who appreciate softer part of this genere with some pieces of warm melody should find them interesting.
