Gli A Plea For Purging son stati una bella rivelazione dell’anno passato nel campo del metal cristiano, forse la migliore tra le band emergenti del settore!
Dopo aver recensito il loro primo lavoro (il MCD “A Plea For Purging” per l’appunto…) con molta sorpresa ci ritroviamo ora al cospetto del loro primo full-lenght. “A Critique Of Mind And Thought” non è il solito album metalcore che suona uguale a mille altri CD del genere; i nostri cinque ragazzi ci dilettano in un sound dalle influenze heavy e power metal…
Il dubbio sorge spontaneo per la diversità dei generi citati però, in questo album generi molto diversi tra loro riescono a trovare l’amalgama giusta, riuscendo ad intrecciarsi nelle varie canzoni creando un lavoro che non stufa mai, che non risulta monotono e soprattutto si distingue per la creatività!
E’ il caso di canzoni tipo l’opener ‘Sons Of Vipers, How Will You Escape the Judgement Of Hell’ dove tra riff pesanti, tipici del loro stile ci troviamo una classica “cavalcata” delle chitarre che ci ricorda molto un gruppo che ha fatto la storia, gli Iron Maiden…
Anche la successiva ‘While the Sparrow Sleeps’ si dimostra un brano “speciale”, che non suona per niente metalcore, ma i due chitarristi Lyle Paschal e Blake Martin si destreggiano, giocando “al gatto con il topo”, ricorrendosi a suon di “assolini”.
Un esempio della potenze degli A Plea For Purging lo possiamo sentire con ‘Perseverance’, brano che si apre con l’urlo di Andrew Atkins, che prosegue per tutti i tre minuti della canzone con uno scream alternato al growl che risulta davvero efficace, per poi venir interrotto ogni tanto dalle solite chitarre che si divertono a giocare a suon di note.
Non dimentichiamo poi ‘Death Has Been Swallowed Up In Victory’, brano quasi favoloso dove l’alchimia tra metalcore e power metal si fonde dando vita ad un pezzo indescrivibile. Molto difficile da decifrare questa canzone, che risulta essere la migliore del lavoro, proprio per la sua polivalenza; qui davvero il gruppo ha dato il meglio!
Comunque l’enorme lavoro delle due chitarre è la caratteristica di questo “A Critique Of Mind And Thought”; lo possiamo evincere ascoltando tutte le dieci canzoni che danno vita a questo CD. Chitarre che non sono l’unico pilastro della band ma che con la voce di Atkins creano delle basi solidissime, senza toglier nulla all’ottimo lavoro di basso e batteria che messi un po’ da parte, si ricavano lo stesso il loro piccolo ma fondamentale spazio.
Di fatto sarebbero da citare tutte le tracce del CD, perché in ognuna di loro c’è qualcosa che la rende speciale e diversa dalle altre.
Con gli A Plea For Purging possiamo rispolverare il classico detto “l’abito non fa il monaco!” A guardarli sembrano 5 pazzoidi, ma leggendo i testi possiamo denotare una profonda fede.
Stupendo è l’inno ‘A Hymn Of Praise’: “I will extol you my God / O King i will bless your name / With the reason of everyday / I will praise your name forever... O Lord, My King. / My eyes wait for you / Your open hand provides gracious and merciful...” ; molto bello anche il ritornello di ‘Everything And Nothing’: “For your kingdom, for your glory / for your eyes to fall upon me. / For your eyes like stars, to fall on my face, / a love that keeps my soul still yearning. / For your eyes like stars, to fall on my face, / a love that keeps my heart still burning”.
Sicuramente “A Critique Of Mind And Thought” è uno degli migliori album usciti nel 2007 e gli A Plea For Purging hanno dimostrato una crescita a livello artistico rispetto ai lavori precedenti. L’album quindi si conferma su ottimi livelli e si discosta dal miscuglio di gruppi metalcore che suonano tutti uguali.
Le sonorità power/heavy sono una mossa geniale da parte dei nostri, che hanno saputo amalgamare il metal moderno con quello più tradizionale, dando all’album intero quel tocco in più che rende speciale la band!

The band A Plea For Purging are a great revelation of the last year in the christian metal field, maybe the best band among the emerging bands of this sector!
After reviewing their first work (just with the same name “A Plea for purging”) with a lot of surprise we are in front of their first full length album. “A Critique Of Mind And Thought” it's not the usual metalcore album that is equal by sound to the other thousands CDs of the same musical genre; our five guys enjoy themselves with a sound with heavy metal and power metal influences...
The doubt rises spontaneously for the different genres used, but in this album, very different genres among them can find the right mix, being able to mix along the different songs creating a long that never tires, that it doesn't result monotonous , and above all it is noticed for the creativity!
It is the case of the songs like the opening song 'Sons Of Vipers, How Will You Escape the Judgement Of Hell' where among heavy riffs , typical of their style we find a classic valkyries “riding” by the guitars that it remembers us a band that made the history, Iron Maiden...
Also the next one ‘While the Sparrow Sleeps’ demonstrates a special “song”, that doesn't sound metalcore at all, but the guitar players Lyle Paschal and Blake Martin manage themselves, playing like the “cat with the mouse”, pursuing to each other with “short” solo sounds.
We can listen an example of the power of A Plea For Purging with the song 'Perseverance', song that it opens with a scream of Andrew Atkins, that continues along the minutes of the song with a scream alternated to growl that results really effective, and then being interrupted sometimes by the usual guitars that enjoy to pursue themselves.
Then let's not forget ‘Death Has Been Swallowed Up In Victory’, song almost fantastic, where the alchemy between metalcore and powermetal are melt together creating an indescribable piece. It's very difficult to decipher this song, that it results to be the best of the work, just for its multivalent propriety; here the band gave the best of itself!
However the enormous work of the guitars it's the characteristic of this “A Critique Of Mind And Thought”; we can notice it listening all the ten songs that give life to this CD. Guitars that aren't the only main columns of the band but with the voice of Atkins they create very solid bases, without taking away anything from the optimum bass guitar work and drum that are put for a little apart, they contribute to gain all the same their little but fundamental space. In reality we should cite all the CD tracks, cause inside every track there is a special lyric and different from the other tracks. With A Plea For Purging we can brush up the classic sentence “The habit doesn't make the monk!” Looking at them , they seem 5 crazy guys, but reading the lyrics we can notice a deep faith.

Surely “A Critique Of Mind And Thought” is one of the best albums come out in 2007 and the band A Plea For Purging demonstrated an artistic level growth compared to their previous works. So the album is confirmed on high levels and it is different by the group of metalcore bands that play all equal. The sound power/heavy of this band is a great move, they know to mix the modern metal with the traditional on, giving to the whole album that kind of artistic touch that makes this band special!
