BECOMING THE ARCHETYPE 
"Dichotomy"

Lo stile dei Becoming The Archetype non è cambiato molto con questa nuova release. Sebbene la band non abbia potuto registrare l'album in modo migliore rispetto al capolavoro “Terminate Damnation”, nessuno dei componenti della band può affermare di non aver lavorato bene. Il nuovo CD “Dichotomy” renderà felici molte persone.
Analogamente come abbiamo potuto notare durante l'ascolto di “The Physics Of Fire”, notiamo che la band si dedica adesso sopratutto ad un ottimo death metal progressive, anche se non dimentica le radici metalcore.
Il disco non deluderà anche coloro che lo ascoltano per la prima volta; nella prima canzone 'Mountains Of Soul' appare una parte alla voce di Devin Twonsed degli Strapping Your Lad, che ha preso spunto dall'album Deftones per un piccolo contributo ricco di atmosfera. Accanto ai bei riff di chitarra e ad un'eccellente batteria troveremo delle parti di piano e potremo anche apprezzare elementi corali.
Importante da considerare è che la titletrack, ricco di viva melodia, è facilmente assimilabile: il brano si caratterizza per il contributo di una tastiera e di chitarre energiche, nonchè un ritmo veloce imposto dalla batteria. Nel ritornello si apprezza un violoncello, che accompagna in modo eccelso la chitarra principale. Un grande lavoro ha compiuto anche Jason Wisdom con il suo scream, realizzato con qualche aiuto di Ryan Clark (cantante dei Demon Hunter che fa qui la sua comparsata), sia per la parte violenta che per la parte più calma. Come possiamo ricordarci non è la prima volta che Clark canta come ospite (per esempio in passato lo era stato nell'indimenticabile 'Elegy'). Solo l'amicizia porta buoni frutti.
Una buona linea vocale è presente poi in 'Self-Existent', dove compare il piano e possiamo ascoltare cori davvero riusciti, che esclamano come Gesù non sia morto: “He is alive! / He'll reign forever.”
Invece in 'Ransom' è la tastiera l'elemento principale della canzone. Lo strumento crea una fantastica atmosfera nella canzone; altro elemento da considerare della song sono le parti basse e pesanti della chitarra ed il grezzo growl in death metal style. Il testo parla della salvezza dalle tenebre dal peccato grazie al sacrificio di Cristo: "He leapt into the arms of hell itself (…) / My hands have taught me terrible things / His hands have set me free!”
Troviamo un testo interessante anche in 'Evil Unseen', che riflette il triste problema dei nostri giorni, in cui le presone rifiutano la fede anteponendole un freddo razionalismo. Per il mondo contano solo vuoti calcoli, l'interpretazione scientifica di tutto, così l'esistenza dello spirito è destinata a morire come effetto di un'arretratezza “medievale”: “We exchange our faith for rational thought / We trade our conscience for advanced reasoning / But there’s no love in thought / Nothing that lasts in deduction(…) / Just death in rationalism(…) / The cancer of mind-worship will leave your spirit to decay.”
Nel CD possiamo anche scoprire testi che in realtà sono una preghiera rivolta a Dio. Per esempio 'How Great Thou Art' è un puro inno, che esprime (tra gli altri) un profondo ringraziamento per tutta la creazione: “Oh Lord my God / When I in awesome wonder / Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made / I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder / Power throughout the universe displayed.”
Bisogna prestare attenzione anche a ‘Deep Heaven’ (che presenta come ospite la linea vocale femminile di Suzanne Richter), dove il suono ricorda qualche volta un vecchio pezzo dei Becoming The Archetype, ossia 'The Trivial Paroxysm'. Di certo, poi, non possiamo lasciarci sfuggire la epic song 'End Of The Age'. Qui le linee vocali sono molto aggressive, quasi black e decisamente malinconiche, specialmente grazie alle efficaci backing vocals. Il testo del brano descrive la potenza di Dio: ”The earth is shaking / Because of His wrath / The mountains tremble / At the sound of His voice / He pulls down the sky / To crush His enemies.”
In questo momento i Becoming The Archetype sono in grado di mantenere ottimi livelli di composizione ripentendo il livello qualitativo già dimostrato; tutto già accade nonostante il chitarrista principale Alex Kenis abbia lasciato la band e il suo posto sia stato preso da Jn Star. Si presume che i fan apprezzeranno anche la nuova line-up. Le ultime notizie riguardano riferite alla band sono per il batterista Brent “Duck” Duckett che è ritornato con i nostri; chissà che non ci aspetti presto qualche altra sorpresa.

The mark of Becoming The Archetype hasn’t change as yet. Although the group can’t still record the album better as their already monumental masterpiece in the presence of “Terminate Damnation”, none rather won’t complain that guys hasn’t working solemnly. The new full-length of them-“Dichotomy” -for sure will drive many minds to wild happiness.
Similarly as we could feel during the listening of “The Physic Of Fire”, should notice also here that band inclines more to progressive death metal, but of course doesn’t reject totally metalcore solutions. On the disc won’t fail the guests too and so just in the first song ‘Mountain Of Souls‘ appears vocal of Devin Townsed from Strapping Your Lad, which on the strange atmospheric background has a little something from the project Deftones. Next to the nice riffs of guitars and excellent percussion we’ll find the part of piano and somewhere far, hidden behind the wall of music symphonic, choir’s elements.
Capital is the piece under the same title as the album ‘Dichotomy’, full of alive melody, which quickly assimilates our ears: energetic guitars, keyboards and very fast tempo of the drums-properly rhythmic and power. In the refrain it hears the pulling strings of viola, which beautifully accompanies the lead guitar. Great job made also Jason Wisdom with his scream and with some help of Ryan Clark (vocalist of Demon Hunter), the violent part as well as calmer just rape us, kidnap. If we remember it’s not a first time when Clark sings as the guest (for example in the past it was in unforgettable ‘Elegy’). Just friendship bears good fruits as we will hear.
Nice vocal line is in ‘Self-Existent’, where appears piano and pretty choirs, who together with scream of Jason exclaims, that Jesus is not dead: ”He is alive! / He’ll reign forever.”
Instead in ‘Ransom’ rules the keyboards. The instrument creates great, symphonic atmosphere into the track and moreover we have the low, heavy tunes of guitar with raw death growl. It can listen with true convenience. The lyric talks about salvation from the darkness of sin in consideration of Christ’s sacrifice: "He leapt into the arms of hell itself (…) / My hands have taught me terrible things / His hands have set me free!”
Interesting text we’ll find in ‘Evil Unseen’, which reflects sad problem of our times, that people are rejecting faith and replacing it by cold rationalism. For the world counts only empty calculation, the scientific interpretation of everything, so the existence of the spirit would like to eliminate as the effect of stupid, “medieval” backwardness: “We exchange our faith for rational thought / We trade our conscience for advanced reasoning / But there’s no love in thought / Nothing that lasts in deduction(…) / Just death in rationalism(…) / The cancer of mind-worship will leave your spirit to decay.”
On the CD we’ll discover also the lyrics which directionally praise God. For example ‘How Great Thou Art’ is a pure hymn, which expresses (between the others) profound thankfullness for all creation: "Oh Lord my God/When I in awesome wonder / Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made / I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder / Power throughout the universe displayed.”
Worth to pay attention are: ‘Deep Heaven’ (with guest female vocal of Suzanne Richter), where the sound remember sometimes old piece of Becoming The Archetype ‘The Trivial Paroxysm’; and of course we can’t overlook the fantastic and very epic song ‘End Of The Age’. Here the vocal line is stronger, blacker and incredibly pathietic, especially because of male chorus, straight from the militaries hordes. Then is the lyric, which describes the potence of God: "The earth is shaking / Because of His wrath / The mountains tremble / At the sound of His voice / He pulls down the sky / To crush His enemies.”
For this moment Becoming The Archetype creates their music on the stable level. Although the lead-guitarist Alex Kenis left the band and his place took Jon Star, it hears not the bigger difference. Assumed, the fans shouldn’t be dissapointed and enjoy the new stuff. Last news brings inforamtion that drummer Brent "Duck” Duckett returned (The Remnant) so now we are awaiting if we will discover some surprises in the future or not.
