BLOODLINE SEVERED 
"Visions Revealed"

Originari del North Carolina i Blood Severed fanno uscire questo loro primo album nel 2008 come autoproduzione (dopo l'EP del 2006 intitolato "Fear Of Reality") e dopo aver firmato un contratto con la Bombworks Records eccoci di fronte, nel 2009, al CD realizzato in modo più ufficiale, remasterizzato ed ampliato, proposto in versione digipack e con una distribuzione mondiale.
Il sound dei nostri si pone prima di tutto come metalcore, ma a questo stile predominante i Bloodline Severed aggiungono evidenti richiami al death metal ed al rock alternativo.
Infatti se l'opener del disco, 'Reborn', è una vera e propria sassata che colpisce l'ascoltatore con un sound potente e death oriented in stile svedese, la successiva 'A Vision Revealed' propone la vena più alternativa dei nostri e al duplice growl ascoltato precedentemente si aggiunge nel refrain un cantato pulito ed estremamente melodico che amplia la sfera espressiva.
Praticamente nel corso del CD si alternano come linee vocali tre differenti modalità: un growl più death e profondo, un secondo più in screaming ed infine un cantato pulito eseguito discretamente. In più fa capolino in alcuni frangenti, la voce femminile di Amy Lynn Corzine (la sentiamo ad esempio in 'Fear Of Reality).
Il contrasto più estremo si ha in questo senso in 'Inception Of Perspicacity' dove il growl più profondo, lo screming e la voce melodica si alternano in un turbinio che quasi confonde.
L'uso delle differenti linee vocali è il punto di forza del disco, che è poi sostenuto da un buon lavoro eseguito dalla coppia di chitarristi, Aaron Macemore e Derek Corzine, che non disdegnano di inserire assoli e incroci di fraseggio decisamente classici, come nel caso ottimamente realizzato di 'Solemn Goodbye', dove si fa notare anche il basso di John Snyder.
I testi parlano di cristianesimo affrontando problematiche esistenziali e molto personali, come conferma la song 'Internal Battles With Eternal Consequences' in cui si assiste ad una disperata richiesta di forza e sostegno tramite la Fede: "This constant struggle of spirit of flesh / Each direction comes certain consequence / Survive by following fire by day / when night falls will it be washed away? / I want to see your face / For this battle I cannot overtake / In my faith / In my faith / I want You next to me / In my mind / My human thoughts / Cries Insanity."
Come unico motivo di critica al disco sottolineiamo come il lavoro, ascoltato per intero, possa in certi frangenti annoiare in quanto la formula stilistica descritta, di per sè varia, si propone più o meno identica in tutti i pezzi; unica eccezione è il pezzo conlcusivo, 'Once Empty', un lento in cui diventa protagonista la voce di Amy Lynn Corzine, che duetta con l'ispirato Corey Weaver (lead vocalist).
Nel complesso quindi "Visions Revealed" è un buond CD di metalcore contaminato che merita un ascolto e può accontare differenti tipologie di ascoltatori senza però superare il livello di album discreto.

Coming from North Carolina, Blood Severed made their first album in 2008 like a self production (after EP in 2006 titled “Fear Of Reality”) and after subscribing a contract with the label Bombworks Records here we are in front of, in 2009, a CD realized in more official way, remasterized and extended, proposed in digipack version with a world distribution.
The sound is metalcore, but together to this predominant style Blood Severed add evident death metal and alternative rock recalls.
In fact if the opening song of the disc, ‘Reborn’, is a real rock that kicks the listener with a powerful sound and death oriented in Swedish style, the following song ‘A Vision Revealed’ proposes the most alternative vein and to the double growl listened previously, it adds a clean sung and extremely melodic in the refrain that amplitudes the expressive sphere.
Practically in the CD there are three different modes that like vocal lines alternate themselves: a growl more death and deeper, a second more screaming and the third one a clean sung executed discreetly. Moreover there is sometimes the female voice of Amy Lynn Corzine (we can hear it in ‘Fear Of Reality’).
In ‘Inception Of Perspicacity’ we have the most estreme contrast where the deepest growl, the screaming and the melodic voice are alternated in a whirling that is almost mixed up.
The use of the different vocal lines is the strength point of the disc, that’s then sustained by a by a good work of the guitarist couple, Aaron Macemore and Derek Corzine, that don’t despise to insert solos and intersections of phrasings decidedly classic, as in the case of ‘Solemn Goodbye’ excellently realized, where we can notice also the bass guitar of John Snyder.
The lyrics talks about christianity facing existential problems and very personal confirmed for example by the song 'Internal Battles With Eternal Consequences' in which we are present at a despairing request of power and sustaining through the Faith: "This constant struggle of spirit of flesh / Each direction comes certain consequence / Survive by following fire by day / when night falls will it be washed away? / I want to see your face / For this battle I cannot overtake / In my faith / In my faith / I want You next to me / In my mind / My human thoughts / Cries Insanity."
As only reason of criticism to the disc we underline that the album, listened entirely, might annoy sometimes because the stylistic formula, just described and various, has been proposed more or less identical in all the pieces; unique exception is the final song, ‘Once Empty’, a slow song in which the voice of Amy Lynn Corzine becomes protagonist, that duets with the inspired Corey Weaver (lead vocalist).
So summarizing “Visions Revealed” is a good CD of contaminated metalcore that deserves at least a listening and it can satisfies different typologies of listeners without exceeding the level of a discreet album.
