DUSK  "Si vis pacem, para bellum..."

Dopo l’album di debutto dei Dusk “Nemo ante mortem beatus”, che di fatto ha iniziato la storia del black cristiano in Italia, è giunto il momento di presentare il secondo lavoro. La nuova opera si intitola “Si vis pacem para bellum”, contiene quattro lunghe canzoni e in totale il CD dura più di un ora. L’album è molto grim e dark... è sufficiente posare lo sguardo sul retro della copertina su cui possiamo vedere un braccio umano, crudelmente mutilato, sanguinante per rendersi conto del contenuto…
A nostro avviso questa immagine è poco consona ad un discorso christian metal e si spera che sia solo un mezzo artistico per esprimere un messaggio più profondo. Il fatto è confermato dal testo che leggiamo sotto l’immagine, nel quale viene descritto che i testi sono stati composti in un momento difficile dell’artista, Azazel; aggiungiamo che purtroppo i testi delle song non sono presenti nel booklet.
Invece la copertina principale ci rimanda a una scintilla di speranza e luminosità; la foto rappresenta una ragazza in nero, che tiene la mano della statua dell’angelo. Sembra che quest’angelo sia un mediatore tra la Terra e il Paradiso e la sola salvezza da un’ossessiva depressione.
Poi sulla superficie del disco si vede una lametta a forma di croce, che ci dice chiaramente che il cantante è assolutamente contrario al comportamento dell’uomo che si vuole autodistruggere. Quindi potremmo dire che l’obiettivo di questo lavoro di Azazel è di mostrare l’oscurità, la solitudine, il dispiacere, secondo la sua personale esperienza ma per proteggere tutti noi, per metterci in guardia dal seguire lo stesso percorso di vita.
L’album si apre con la canzone ‘Nero Inverno Sanguinante’, dotata di un’ossessiva voce in stile dark. La melodia viene caratterizzata da salde chitarre e una batteria relativamente statica. In alcuni momento appaiono anche degli stacchi ambient. La seconda canzone, ‘Neronoia (tra i miei silenzi)’ presenta linee vocali molto crude. Vi possiamo incontrare qui un black scream in una forte e dura connotazione. La meravigliosa percussione della batteria e l'energia delle chitarre creano un ambiente sonoro in cui possiamo riconoscere alcuni elementi che disegnano una dolorosa trama emozionale. Dopo sette minuti appare una voce maschile pulita; alla fine del brano si possono ascoltare buoni fraseggi di chitarra accompagnati dal basso.
Il terzo pezzo, ‘Al di là del nulla’, è sempre basato su un sound fortemente ambient; si tratta della più lunga e più depressiva canzone del CD. Dopo una prima parte di black scream con suoni monotoni di chitarra fa capolino un momento di silenzio in cui possiamo sentire un pianto disperato. Poi, con una rapida variazione, si possono ascoltare degli strani suoni, talmente estranei da sembrare provenienti da un altro mondo. Tutto questo porta a uno stato di ansia e paura.
Sembra quasi di asssitere, nell'ascoltare questo pezzo, ad una lotta spirituale con qualcosa di mostruoso e malvagio la cui entità è quasi impossibile da descrivere. Ne sentiamo la presenza attorno a noi, quasi fosse in grado di aggrapparsi al dolore dell'uomo, e noi ci sentimao impotenti di fronte a questo strazio.
Mentre si svolge questa “battaglia” si possono sentire delle chitarre che sviluppano un sound che esprime un sentimento di afflizione e descrive una scena dolorosa.
La title-track, che chiude l’album, musicalmente è molto varia. Inizia con il rumore di un vento che soffia; da questo suono emergono in successione gli strumenti: fruscii, chitarre rumorore, basso, percussioni…
Lo stile della voce è qui simile al secondo pezzo, rude e selvaggio. Da una parte ci ricorda un felino furente, dall’altra parte invece lo stesso vento che si infuria. La melodia si bilancia tra l’oscurità e la luce, ma nella maggior parte dei casi sembra essere allegra e serena. Il brano è poi arricchito ulteriormente da una buona parte di tastiere.
L’atmosfera creata dai Dusk in questo secondo album dovrebbe colpire piacevolmente tutti i fan del black metal, in particolare chi ama lo stile di band come Eligibbor o Abdijah.
Infine sottolineiamo che l’album contiene anche, in un bel DVD box, il videoclip di ‘Nero inverno sanguinante’ e anche una foto gallery.

After Dusk’s debut “Nemo ante mortem beatus”, arrived the day of presentation the new material. The album titled “Si vis pacem para bellum” contains four songs but of course accordingly long. In total the CD lasts more than one hour, so we have many minutes for delight in the music. The record is very grim and dark. It’s sufficient to take a look only at the reverse of the artwork, where we see the human arm, cruelly mutilated, bleeding… (from our point of view we hope that is only and final photo we see, so violent, which “adorns” the artwork in christian metal!).
Under the image we read the text, in which is described that, lyrics were composed in the difficult, self- destructive period of the artist; however we won’t find the booklet inside. Instead the main cover brings some sparks of hope and brightness; the photo presents a girl in black, who holds the hand of the angel’s monument. It seems that this angel is a mediator between Earth and Heaven and sole rescue from obsessive depression.
Then on the surface of the disc it sees the crossed razorblade, which tells clearly that singer is absolutely against the behavior of self-destruction. So, perhaps we could tell that mission of this Azazel’s work is to show darkness, solitude, sorrow, from his personal experience but in the way to protect all of you, to give a caution and warn do not follow that path.
The album opener, ‘Nero inverno sanguinante’, shows obsessive, dark vocal.
Through the melody passes steady guitars and relatively static parts of drums. In some moments appears also ambient smacks.
Second song ‘Neronoia (tra i miei silenzi)’ vocally is very crude. We meet here the black scream in strong, harsh solution. The wandering percussion and guitars fulfill a little invisible, masked ambient background, where we can recognize some elements, which remember pathetic choir. After seven minutes for short while appears clean male vocal.
Whereas at the end we’ll hear nice pulling of guitar chords, which accompanies the murmuring bass.
The third piece ‘Al di là del nulla’ based closely on ambiental roots, is the longest and the most depressive as well. After the part of black scream with monotone crawling guitar appears moment of silence, where we hear desperate crying. Then very quickly join strange sounds, like not from this world. All it wakes some anxiety, fear. It seems that we observe a spiritual struggle with something monstrous, bad. This evil isn’t possible to describe. We feel around the presence of it, as attacks the crying man also inside of him, and we can’t even help.
During this “battle” we’ll hear rueful guitar, which completes this grievous scene. In 12 minute of the track all tears terrible scream and everything returns to black metal composition.
Song, which closes the album ‘Si vis pacem, para bellum’, musically is more various. It starts with sound of blowing wind, which from emerge succeeding instruments: whirring, noisy guitar, bass, percussion... The tint of vocal is similar to second piece, savage and rough. On the one hand remember the angry wildcat, from the other side instead the same blowing wind. The melody balances between obscurity and light, but in most seems to be quite cheerful, serene.
Thanks to good cooperation of many different riffs and fine drums programming it listens with big pleasure. Then we have here nice sound of keyboard, which makes this song again richer and more beautiful.
The atmosphere of Dusk should apprecate all the fans of black metal. As example we can remember here Elgibbor or Abdijah. Then we can’t forget other Azazel’s project like Suspiria Profundis, Absum... In this place is needed also one information that except the album, we’ll find inside the box dvd with video for the ‘Nero Inverno Sanguinante’ and photo gallery. For some of you it can be a real treat.
