ELECTRALYTE  "Scratch Beneath The Earth"

Inglesi, gli Electralyte sono dediti ad un rock moderno coniato in modo spontaneo ma perfetto per i tempi e per la moda dell’ascoltatore di rock alternativo/funk di questo periodo. Questo secondo full length “Scratch Beneath The Surface” si mantiene aderente al loro stile ed è prodotto da Tom Mills e Steve Harding, maghi del brit-pop-rock.
I nostri, nativi di Essex, partono sin dal primo pezzo, ‘Again Again’, a colpirci con zampettanti ritmiche ben sottolineate dal bassista (spesso ben presente) Paul Leverett e dal batterista Jon Mitson. Tutti i brani si dimostrano discretamente dinamici e colmi di cori in cui partecipano praticamente tutti i membri del combo.
Già con ‘Tall Stories’ le cose cominciano ad essere serie, grazie ad un chorus di sicuro effetto che colpisce sin dal primo ascolto. Ma è con ‘Where In The World’ che ogni dubbio viene fugato circa la notevole abilità compositiva dei nostri che ci piazzano sotto il naso uno strascicato brano di rock un po’ funky che evidenzia le abilità istrioniche del singer “recitante” Matt Leeder, autore anche di tutti i testi. Le lyric della song, che partono da un’esperienza di Matt persosi nell’immensità del paesaggio statunitense in un’estate degli anni scorsi, si svilupppano in un elogio della vita cristiana, dell’amore per la famiglia e della relazione con Dio: “In this desert I’ll be but I want to get home / (I left my heart in London again) / Back home I’m moving to slow followings roads finding the way / Back to you.”
Ancor più sorniona e convincente è l’altra song rilassata ‘Athens’, che parla della relazione con Dio e con la donna amata. Infatti Matt ha dedicato e pensato questa song per la moglie amata, Chell, che ricorda con tanto sentimento: “These old english shores we’ve landed / Home again at least for now renewed… that’s all / It’s life or fdeath we’ve chosen life.”
I testi, come si evince da molti brani, sono spesso mistici e partono dalle esperienze di vita del singer, che le filtra attraverso la sua forte fede in Dio e in Gesù Cristo.
A livello musicale colpiscono ancora molti brani, fra i quali spicca ‘Spiders And Flies’, un delicato rock-pop in cui ancora una volta Matt alla voce sa donare una vera e propria anima a questo lento claustrofobico e malinconico che parla della tentazione e della lotta per resistervi. La sorpresa sopraggiunge a metà song, quando, dopo il chorus, si inserisce una tromba, che rende ancor più interessante il pezzo, delicato e soave.
In conclusione gli Electralyte con questo ‘Scratch Beneath The Surface’, dimostrano di aver migliorato ulteriormente la loro abilità compositiva (rispetto al precedente CD “Breakout”, 2006 e all’EP “Electralyte” del 2005) proponendo una dozzina di song mai scontate, sebbene a tratti fin troppo sofisticate.

English band, Electralyte are devoted to a modern rock born in spontaneous manner and it’s perfect for the listener of the alternative rock/funk of this present time. This second full length “Scratch Beneath The Surface” is adherent to their style and it’s produced by Tom Millis and Steve Harding, magician of the brit-pop-rock.
Coming from Essex, this band starts with the first piece, ‘Again Again’, to strike us with nice rhythmical motifs well underlined by the bass guitar player (often present) Paul Leverett and the drum player Jon Mitson. All the songs are discreetly dynamic and full of choruses in which all the members of the band participate.
Just with ‘Tall Stories’ the things starts to be serious, thanks to a chorus with definite effect that strikes since the first listening. But it’s with ‘Where In The World’ that every doubt is dispelled about the notable composition ability of the band that shows us a song in rock/funky style that draws attention the abilities of the “recital” singer Matt Leeder, also author of all the lyrics. The lyrics that start from a Matt experience , lost in the immensity of the U.S.A. landscape during a summer years ago, it goes toward an eulogy of the Christian life, about the love for the family and about the relation with God : “In this desert I’ll be but I want to get home / (I left my heart in London again) / Back home I’m moving to slow followings roads finding the way / Back to you.”
More crafty and convincing is the other song, relaxing, ‘Athens’, that talks about the relation with God and with the loved woman. In fact Matt dedicated and thought this song for the beloved wife, Chell, that remembers with much feeling: “These old english shores we’ve landed / Home again at least for now renewed… that’s all / It’s life or death we’ve chosen life.”
The lyrics, as we can notice in many songs, are often mystics and they start from the experiences of life of the singer, that goes through his strong faith in God and in Jesus Christ.
At the musical level there are a lot of songs that made a deep impression, among them ‘Spiders And Flies’, a delicate rock-pop in which yet a time Matt with the voice knows how donating a real soul to this slow claustrophobic and melancholy that talks about the temptation and about the struggle to resist. The surprise comes at the middle song, when, after the chorus, it starts to play a trumpet, that makes more interesting the piece, delicate and sweet.
In conclusion, Electralyte with this ‘Scratch Beneath The Surface’,demonstrate to have improved their composition ability (than the previous CD “Breakout”, made in 2006 and than the EP “Electralyte” made in 2005) proposing twelve songs, with a never expected style, even if sometimes to much sophisticated.
