E’ un piacere per noi presentare l’ultima fatica di Kevin Max, grande artista non solo in campo musicale ma anche poeta e, forse meglio conosciuto come membro della pop Christian band dei Dc Talk.
Con questo “The Blood” egli riesce proporre un ottimo album, veramente di buona musica, e vanta la presenza di molti ospiti, famosi e meno famosi.
Disco di difficile interpretazione, ma di facile ascolto,un misto di sonorità tipiche degli anni ’70 e ’80, un po’ di gospel ed ecco la miscela esplosiva di “The Blood”, album che comunque riesce da subito a trasmettere sensazioni positive,e cattura dal primo ascolto.
I gruppi che influenzano maggiormente questo CD sono Queen, U2, Leonard Cohen, Beatles e un certo Elvis, senza dimenticare tale Johnny Cash, la cui “presenza” si sente in modo molto forte nell’opener ‘The Old Rugged Cross’ un solo chitarra/voce spettacolare che ci riportano indietro di parecchi anni.
Le altre tracce ripercorrono come detto sopra sonorità passate, che vanno alla riscoperta di quel rock tanto caro ai chi ha vissuto a cavallo tra gli anni ’70 e ’80.
Cosa che ben sentiamo già con ‘The Cross’, dove le chitarre la fanno da padrone e la voce di Kevin Max ogni tanto ricorda quella di Bono [(U2…), l’album poi continua con la “spumeggiante” ‘Run For a Long Time’ per poi passare a sonorità sicuramente più tranquille come quelle di ‘Trouble of The World’ e ‘I Know His Blood Can Make Me Whole’.
Di tutt’altro ritmo è ‘Up Above My Head I Hear Music In The Air’, che fa venir in mente subito i Queen, grazie ad un suono rock scanzonato anni ’80; davvero un bel pezzo, forse quello più riuscito del CD.
Le tre tracce successive ritornano su ritmi più blandi, pacati per sfociare di nuovo nel rock spensierato della finale ‘One Way (One Blood)’.
Dal punto di vista dei testi molto forte il lato “credente” che risuona più volte nelle parole di Kevin Max e che ogni tanto sono celati, vanno letti oltre le righe delle liriche delle canzoni.
Notevole anche la presenza di guests, di ospiti in questo lavoro, per esempio in ‘Run For A Long Time’ abbiamo la partecipazione di Chris Sligh, oppure Amy Grant e Vince Gill offrono il loro contributo nella traccia numero 6 del CD. Senza dimenticare Erica Campbell in ‘People Get Ready’ e infine in ‘One Way (One Blood)’ c’è la collaborazione di Joanne Cash…
Album molto ricco dal punto di vista musicale e dei testi, Kevin Max offre dieci brani che ci riportano su sonorità care agli anni d’oro del rock, carichi di spunti positivi.
Perciò ottima la prova dell’artista americano che si ripresenta sul mercato con questo “The Blood” che supera notevolmente la sufficienza!

It’s a real pleasure for us to speak about the last work by Kevin Max, not only a great artist but also a good poet, maybe known mostly as a member of the Christian pop band Dc Talk.
“The Blood” is a really great album, full of nice songs and composed with the participation of a lot of guests artists famous and not.
Hard to understand but easy to listen, this album is a mix of typical ’70, ’80 sounds joined with gospel: this is “The Blood”, a real explosive mixture which transmits positive feelings and manages to capture the listener since the first listen.
This cd is mainly inspired by such bands as Queen, U2, Leonard Cohen, Beatles and a “so called” Elvis, without forget Joanne Cash, whom “influence” is felt really hard in the opener 'The Old Rugged Cross' a beautiful guitar/voice solo that lead us many years back in time.
The other songs, as said before, walk the way of the old rock, trying to re-discover the sounds and melodies that who lived the ’70 and ’80 liked.
We can appreciate this especially in 'The Cross', where guitars rules the whole song and Kevin Max’s voice remembers that of Bono (U2...); then album goes on with the effervescing 'Run for a long Time' and then changes mood with more calm melodies such as 'Trouble Of The World' and 'I Know His Blood Can Make Me Whole'.
A change of rhythm with 'Up Above My Head I Hear Music In The Air' which remembers the ’80 easy-going rock played by Queen, this is one of the best songs, maybe the best one of the whole album.
The next three songs flatten the rhythm calming it down just to pave the way for the last song 'One Way (One Blood)', another great rock piece.
As to lyrics, the “faith” frame is really strong and sounds continuously in Kevin Max’s words, hidden behind the sentences of all songs, thus creating an album with several listening levels full of meanings.
This album is rich in guests as in 'Run For A Long Time' with Chris Sligh; Amy Grant and Vince Gill in the 6th track; Erica Campbell in 'People Get Ready' and last but not least in 'One Way (One Blood)' the above mentioned Joanne Cash.
Kevin Max created an album so rich in lyrics melodies and sounds: ten beautiful songs that lead us back to the golden age of rock music.
A really good test for the American composer, “The Blood” is an album that cannot be left in the shelf from the ’80 rock lovers!
