“Identity” è il titolo del full-lenght di esordio dei finlandesi Pain Remains, band dedita ad un metalcore di matrice statunitense dalle chiare influenze thrash. Ancora una volta la label Bullroser Records, dopo aver lanciato sul mercato HB, Random Eyes e Deuteronomium, scova una band cristiana dalle buone potenzialità.
Il disco scorre abbastanza bene, complice l’esigua durata delle song, anche se comunque si ha l’impressione di ascoltare soluzioni già sentite e risentite nel genere, soprattutto nei riff e nei tempi speed. Da segnalare purtroppo una produzione non eccelsa che vista la discreta bravura tecnica del combo avrebbe meritato tutt’altro responso.
L’album si apre con la sostenuta ‘Drown’, traccia che risente parecchio dell’influsso di As I Lay Dying e Caliban, tanto per citare qualche nome. Ottimi i riff di chitarra che compongono la canzone e le belle melodie che accompagnano il chorus tipicamente metalcore.
L’anima thrash del gruppo emerge con le canzoni ‘Rising’ e ‘Circle’ dove si possono notare chiaramente le attinenze a band come Testament e Megadeth. Questo avviene soprattutto nella sesta traccia, forse la più variegata e fantasiosa dell’intero disco, per mezzo di cambi di tempo, parti elettro-acustiche e un’ottima prova del singer Eero Solje dalla voce duttile e potente, che spazia senza alcun problema da growl death al classico cantato di scuola metalcore.
Le ultime canzoni non si discostano con quanto ascoltato in precedenza, anzi ripercorrono gli stessi registri compositivi.
In definitiva “Identity” è un album che si staziona sulla sufficienza piena anche se comunque ha il difetto di essere troppo ripetitivo e questo lo si può notare dalle tracce molto simili tra di loro, in modo particolare nei tempi di batteria e nei riff, a volte troppo uguali.
Speriamo di poter ascoltare qualcosa di più incisivo nel prossimo studio album, perché i Pain Remains hanno delle buone carte a loro disposizione, e vale la pena sfruttarle.

“Identity” is the title of the full-length exordium of the Finnish Pain Remains, band devoted to a metal core of American matrix by clear thrash influences. Yet a time the label Bullroser Records, after selling HB, Random Eyes and Deutoronomium, have found a Christian band with good potentialities.
The album flows fairly well, aid the the scarce length of the songs, even if however we have the impression to listen solutions just heard and hear again in its genre, above all along the riffs and speed times. I have to signal unfortunately a not lofty production that considering the discrete technical quality of the band it would have deserved a total different response.
The album opens with the sustained ‘Drown’, track that shows enough traces of influences of As I Lay Dying and Caliban just to cite some names. Excellent the guitar riffs that compose the song and the nice melodies that accompaign the chorus tipically metal core.
The thrash soul of the band emerges with the songs ‘Rising’ and ‘Circle’ where we can notice clearly the connections to bands like Testament and Megadeth. This happens above all in the sixth track, maybe the most variegated and fanciful of the whole disc, through the changes of time, electro acoustic sides and an excellent proof of the singer Eero Solje with the ductile voice and powerful, that spaces without any problems from the growl death to the classic metal core school.
The last songs don’t wander with what listened previously, on the contrary they run through the same constituent registers.
After all “Identity” is an album that stays on the full sufficient vote even if however it has the defect to be too much repetitive and we can notice this by the tracks very similar among them, in particular manner in the drum times and along the riffs, sometimes too much equals.
Let’s hope to listen something more incisive with the next studio album , because Pain Remans have good cards at their disposal, and it’s better using them.
