SACRECY  "Sacrecy"

Non c’è niente da dire! La Finlandia è senz’altro la patria del power metal melodico!
Questo è soprattutto testimoniato dalle decine e decine di gruppi in attività da parecchi anni, alcuni dei quali famosissimi, basti pensare a Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica e Nightwish che hanno conosciuto un ottimo successo nel corso della loro carriera.
Ma la terra scandinava si è fatta anche conoscere, ultimamente, per la numerosa e prolifica presenza di christian metal band di qualsiasi genere. Così, dopo il recente successo dei conterranei Hilastherion, battezzati con un grande album di esordio, tocca ai giovanissimi Sacrecy rispondere, in campo power, con il loro omonimo primo full-length.
La proposta presentata dal quintetto, formatosi nel 2002 per mano del leader Panu Siik, che ricorda non poco l’ugola di Timo Kotipelto, è essenzialmente un power metal melodico arricchito da semplici ma concise sonorità prog e attinenze gothic/dark in alcuni frangenti.
Le canzoni sono molto belle e si lasciano ascoltare alla grande senza eccessivi momenti di stanchezza e tensione, inoltre, la qualità del prodotto è veramente alta e la produzione risulta essere la vera carta vincente dell’intero disco.
L’opener track è ‘Image Of God’, ottimo esempio di power metal moderno dalle forti tinte prog, che ricorda parecchio gli ultimi Sonata Arctica e il goth di For My Pain e Charon.
Molto atmosferico e riflessivo è l’intermezzo con pianoforte e voce che alla fine sfocia nel ritornello conclusivo, che pur non essendo particolarmente catchy, ma anzi un po’ controverso e malinconico, si memorizza facilmente dopo pochi ascolti, complice un testo splendido che trasmette appieno il messaggio cristiano dei Sacrecy: “You are an image of me / You’re the moon and I am the sun / All your sins are now gone / For I’m the One / You are an image of God / And the moon has found its sun / Spread the word, the word of God / You’ve seen the One”.
Il brano seguente, ‘Devil’s Reign’, possiamo considerarlo come il vero e proprio esempio di power nordico classico e canonico di tutto l’album, che conferma un ulteriore legame con i Sonata Arctica. Ritmiche in up-tempo, tappeti di tastiera, strofe semplici e un ritornello solare, caratterizzano questa song che sembra seguire anche la scia e l’approccio musicale degli Stratovarius.
Altro bellissimo episodio è, ‘Forgive’, dal clima quasi mistico e divino, che ritorna su territori più gotici e progressive appartenenti al sound della band finnica, in modo specifico nella parte strumentale, dove assoli stupendi di chitarra e tastiera duettano assieme.
Inoltre, ascoltando questa canzone, particolarmente nella parte iniziale, si ha davvero l’impressione che al microfono ci sia un certo Timo Kotipelto. Infatti la rassomiglianza timbrica vocale tra il noto singer degli Stratovarius e il giovane Panu è davvero netta e chiara che ci cascherebbe perfino lo stesso Tolkki.
Il melodic metal torna a trionfare attraverso uno degli hit dell’intero disco, ‘Hope From Above’, che stavolta sembra rimembrare i primi Nightwish nelle armonie e nella costruzione compositiva, pur rimanendo costante la componente gothic, di chiara matrice finlandese, che qualifica la musica dei Sacrecy.
Giunge così il momento più contemplativo e spirituale del lavoro, la ballata ‘Anxious Eyes’, degna delle migliori power ballad metal, che appare parecchio suadente nell’appeal e nel chorus di facile memorizzazione. Ottimi e curatissimi gli arrangiamenti, pianoforte con strings orchestrali, chitarre clean e distorte e una sezione ritmica precisa e raffinatissima.
La successiva traccia è la superba ‘The Shadow Of Me’, altro apice del disco, canzone che più di altre mostra il carattere cupo e prog del gruppo.
E’ un bellissimo riff di chitarra molto Dream Theater ad introdurre il tema del brano che si ripete successivamente anche nei vari ritornelli. Sono sempre e comunque i Sonata Arctica il vate dei Sacrecy, questo lo si può notare dal modo di concepire la musica e dalle melodie che scomodano fin troppi paragoni con il gruppo di Tony Kakko.
Sulla stessa direzione, i seguenti ‘The Child Within’ e ‘The Kiss Of Betrayal’, che in generale ripetono e ripercorrono le caratteristiche esplicitate nelle altre canzoni e si fanno soprattutto notare per gli ottimi ed incisivi momenti solistici che si sviluppano nel corso del loro incedere.
La chiusura spetta al vero e proprio capolavoro dell’intero album, ‘Masquerade’, una stupenda suite di nove minuti e mezzo che racchiude in se tutte le influenze del combo finlandese, dai Nightwish all’inizio, passando per i For My Pain nelle atmosfere, fino ad arrivare ai Sonata Arctica, costante fissa dei cinque musicisti.
Ottimo esordio, dunque, anche per i Sacrecy, che aprono il loro lungo, speriamo, percorso artistico-musicale nel migliore dei modi, con una prima apparizione degna di essere evidenziata e ricordata per indubbie qualità tecniche, fantasia, creatività e soprattutto per un’ottima originalità che oggi molto spesso, non vuol dir nulla, ma che invece significa parecchio nell’immenso mondo hard’n’heavy.
Un plauso particolare và, infine, alla label Maanalainen records per aver scovato, ancora una volta, giovanissimi e validissimi musicisti nelle terre fredde e gelide della Finlandia, vero e proprio cantiere aperto di metal band.
A questo punto non posso che consigliare l’ascolto dell’album a tutti coloro che amano il power metal melodico di scuola nordica, e in particolare ai fans di Sonata Arctica, Nightwish e Stratovarius.

There is nothing to say! Finland is certainly the country of the melodic power metal!
A lot of people who plays this genre took witness about this, some of those people, are very famous, like Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica and Nightwish who knew an excellent success along their career. But the scandinavian land is known, lately, for the numerous and growing presence of christian metal bands of every genre.
So after the recent success of the scandivanian Hilasterion, beptized with a great exordium album, it's the turn of the young band Sacrecy, in the power metal field, with their omonymous first full-length album.
The proposal presented by the quintet, born in 2002 thanks to the leader Panu Siil, whom it remembers by his voice Timo Kotipelto, is essentially a melodic power metal enriched by simple but brief prog sonorities and sometimes gothic/dark connections.
The songs are very beautiful and we would never be tired to listen them, furthermore, the product quality is really high and the production is the winning card of the whole album.
The opening track is 'Image Of God', excellent example of modern power metal with strong prog connotations, that remembers a lot the last Sonata Arctica's albums and the gothic style of For My Pain and Charon.
Very atmospheric and reflexive is the intermezzo with keyboard and high voice that at the end comes out with an ending refrain, that although isn't particularly catchy, but indeed cotroversial and malinconic, we can remember it after few listening, accomplice a wonderful lyric that transmits fully the christian message of Sacrecy :"You are an image of me / You’re the moon and I am the sun / All your sins are now gone / For I’m the One / You are an image of God / And the moon has found its sun / Spread the word, the word of God / You’ve seen the One”.
We can consider the following song, 'Devil's Reign', like a real example of nordic power and canonical of all the album, that confirms a further chaining with Sonata Acrtica. Rythmics in up-time , carpets of keyboards, simple stanzas and a sunny refrain, characterize this song that seems to follow also the flow and the musical approach of Stratovarius.
Another beautiful episode is, 'Forgive', with the atmosphear almost mystic and divine, that returns on more gothic and progressive lands belonging to the sound of the finnish band, in specific connotation in the musical side, where wonderful solos of guitar and keyboard play together.
Then, listening this song, in particular at beginning, we have really the impression that at the microphone there is Timo Kotipelto. Infact the resemblance between the famous Stratovarius singer and the young Panu is really clean that the same Tolkki would be taken in it.
The melodic metal returns to triumph through one of the whole album hits, 'Hope From Above', that this time seems to remember the first Nightwish albums along the armonies and composition building, remaining constant the gothic component, of clear finnish matrix, which qualifies the Sacrecy's music.
It comes then the most contemplative and spiritual side of the work, the ballad 'Anxious Eyes', worthy of the best power metal ballads, that appears enough persuasive in the appeal and in the chorus of easy rememberin. Excellent and cared the arrangements, keyboard with orchestral strings, clean guitars and sprained and with an accurate and refined ritmic.
The following track is the superb 'The Shadow Of Me', another hit of the album, song that more than something else shows a dark and prog connotation of the band.
It's a beautiful riff guitar in Dream Theater style to introduce the theme of the song that repeats itself also later along the various refrains.
It is always Sonata Arctica the inspiration of Sacrecy, we can notice it by the way of conceiving the music and by the melodies that makes it similar with the group of Tony Kakko.
On the same direction, the following 'The Child Within' and 'The Kiss Of Betrayal', that in general they repeat and follow the chararacteristics explained before in the other songs and they are noticed for the great and decisive solo moments that are enveloped along their proceeding path.
The closing time belongs to the masterpiece of the whole album, 'Masquerade', a wonderful suite of nine minutes and thirty seconds that contains in it all the influences of the finnish band, from Nightwish at beginning , going through For My Pain for the atmosphears, arriving till to Sonata Arctica, fixed contant of the five musicians.
Excellent exordius, so, also for the Sacrecy, that open, let's hope, a musical-artistic path in the best of ways, with a first apparition worth to be underlined and remembered for the qualities, technicians , fantasy, creativity and above all for an excellent originality that today, often it means nothing, but that instead it means a lot in the immense world of hard'n'heavy.
A particular approval goes, then, to the label Maanalainen records for having found, yet a time, young and valid musicians in the cold and freeze lands of Finland, true building site opened to metal bands.
At this point I cannot renounce to suggest the listening of the album to all of ones who love the melodic power metal of nordic school, and in particular to the Sonata Arctica, Nightwish and Stratovarious fans.
