THE SEVENTH POWER  "Dominion & Power"

Secondo lavoro per i Seventh Power del notissimo chitarrista di Final Axe e Titanic Bill Minchen, che insieme al compagno Rod Reasner (nei Final Axe) e al grande Robert Sweet alla batteria (Stryper) dà vita a dieci track di ottimo classic metal che ben si intreccia ad ottimo hard rock. Il lavoro è chiaramente ispirato al periodo più potente dei Black Sabbath (inizio anni ’80), senza tralasciare passaggi più rilassati e un poco psichedelici come in ‘Sacrificial Blood’.
La voce in Ozzy style di Menchen evidenzia ancor di più una vicinanza a tratti imbarazzante con la maggior band di ispirazione.
Il CD ha una buona apertura e una discreta differenziazione. Si passa da brani epici ed evocatici come ‘Sea Of Galilee’ (brano che ricorda l’episodio del miracolo della camminata sulle acque di Gesù: “Walking on the waves calmed the sea / Jesus saves on the sea of Galilee”) a brani più cadenzati e doom quali ‘Dominion And Power’ o ancora a song d’assalto come la cavalcata mid-tempo di ‘Everlasting Fire’, in cui il serrato riff di chitarra fa da contraltare a dosati passaggi di tastiera. Il brano, a livello lirico, descrive come sia possibile finire all’inferno seguendo le parole del “signore delle menzogne”: “how did we go from Paradise / To darkness? / Follow the father of lies / Into the abyss / To be as Gods I don’t like the odds / everlasting Fire in Everlasting Fire / Oh yeah.”
La linea ritmica del gruppo emerge in modo egregio nella possente ‘Hailstones’, dove il drumming compatto e vivace di Robert Sweet sottolinea le variazioni di melodia con smaliziata professionalità.
Nel prosequio della tracklist abbiamo modo di trovare anche un pezzo soffuso come ‘Clouds’, quasi meditativo potremmo dire, che inizia con una parte in chitarra acustica molto evocativa e che a livello di testi ricorda come le nuvole rappresentino in cielo un simbolo della grandezza di Dio: “Clouds of glory in the sky / Clouds around the bread unleavened / Clouds of angels that can fly / Clouds coming down from heaven.”
Unico neo di questa release più che interessante è il mood complessivo del disco che, complice la voce un po’ monotona di Bill e l’eccessivo ritornare su tempi molto cadenzati, può sembrare in parte un po’ troppo ripetitivo.

Second project for Seventh Power band with the famous guitar player Final Axe and Titanic Bill Minchen, that together to the mate Rod Reasner (in Final Axe band) and to the great Robert Sweet to the drums (Stryper) they gave life to ten tracks of excellent classic metal mixed to an excellent hard rock style. The project is clearly inspired to the most powerful period of Black Sabbath (beginning 80’s ) , without forgetting more relaxed passages and for a few psychedelics like in ‘Sacrificial Blood’
The voice of Menchen is very similar to the Ozzy one.
The CD has an excellent opening and a discrete differentiation. They pass from epic and evocative songs like ‘Sea Of Galilee’ (song that remembers the episode of the miracle in which Jesus walks on the waters : “Walking on the waves calmed the sea / Jesus saves on the sea of Galilee”) sometimes more cadenced and doom like ‘Dominion And Power’ or assault songs like the mid time riding song of ‘Everlasting Fire, in which the quick guitar riff is alternated to keyboard sound passages. The song to the lyrical level, describes how is possible going to the hell following the words of the “lord of the lies” : “how did we go from Paradise / To darkness? / Follow the father of lies / Into the abyss / To be as Gods I don’t like the odds / everlasting Fire in Everlasting Fire / Oh yeah.”
The rhythmic line of the band emerges in a distinguished manner in the powerful ‘Hailstones’ , where the compact drumming and lively of Robert Sweet underlines the melodic variations with cunning professionalism.
Along the corse of the tracklist we found also a soffuse song like ‘Clouds’, we could say almost meditative, that starts from a part in acustic guitar very evocative and that at the textual way remembers how the clouds represent in the sky a symbol of the God greatness: “Clouds of glory in the sky / Clouds around the bread unleavened / Clouds of angels that can fly / Clouds coming down from heaven.”
Unique fault of this release more than interesting is the complex mood of the disco that witness a monotone voice of Bill and the excessive returning on more cadenced times, it could seem for a part very repetitive.
