SUSPIRIA PROFUNDIS 
"In War Against Satan"

L’ultimo periodo artistico di Azazel è stato molto produttivo. Tra i molti progetti realizzati nella sua carriera artistica finalmente arriva nelle nostre mani uno dei più attesi – il vero unblack metal italiano realizzato dal primo gruppo legato a questo specifico filone, ossia i Suspiria Prufundis. L’album “In The War Against Satan” è stato rilasciato da parte della Sullen Records econtiene sette brani più una bonus track. Si tratta di un'edizione estremamente limitata, considerando che ne sono state realizzate solo 250 copie; inoltre va aggiunto che ogni copia è autografata dallo stesso artista.
La nostra attenzione è rivolta anche all'artwork di copertina dell’album che rappresenta l’enorme logo dei Suspiria Profundis, scritto in bianche lettere su uno sfondo nero, che ne occupa tutto lo spazio, quindi in pieno black metal-style.
Il CD inizia con un intro ambient intitolato ‘Prepare For War’ che ci porta direttamente al cuore della proposta musicale. ‘In The War Against Satan’ si apre con una recitazione profonda e a bassa voce; poi si inserisce un suono cupo di chitarra insieme alla batteria che giunge subito dopo. A questo punto la melodia viene interrotta dalloscream oscuro di Azazel. Lo screaming talvolta diventa più aggressivo e ricorda drammatico pianto urlato a squarciagola. Nel prosequio del pezzo si inserisce anche una parte di tastiera che crea un'atmosfera di ansia.
Sorprendente è poi la canzone ‘Under The Power’ in cui c’e’ come ospite la cantante Warfire; le due linee vocali si amalgano molto bene fra loro dando vita ad una sorta di unione di sottile delicatezza e di forza bruta. Inoltre si può anche ascoltare la calma e il piacevole strimpellìo delle corde di chitarra.
Un altro ospite, ossia Sigurd, che duetta alla voce con Azazel è presente anche nella terza traccia ‘Rage Against The Beast’ e il suo growl profondo ci investe e ci convince. Questo rafforzamento fornisce un effetto di forte intensità e rende la canzone più cruda.
E' quindi il turno della violenta ‘Destroy The Satanic Pantheon’, dove lo scream diventa ancor più ruvido. Nel prosequio del brano si può ascoltare una parte recitata in cui il singer recita in modo freddo e glaciale: “Destroy The Satanic Force! Destroy The satanic Pantheon!”
Altro pezzo interessante verso cui bisogna prestare attenzione è la bonus track ‘Power Of God’ che riflette molto attentamente lo stile degli Horde. Il ritmo della batteria, il modo in cui viene suonata la chitarra... tutte queste caratteristiche ci ricordano in pieno la prima storica band di unblack metal.
Per quanto riguarda le lyrics, bisogna sottolineare due cose. In primis va detto che quasi tutti i testi sono stati scritti in un mix di italiano e inglese, e qualche volta viene utilizzato anche il latino, soprattutto per le parti recitate. Questo significa che in qualche pezzo potremo ascoltare la voce in due o tre lingue diverse! In secondo luogo facciamo notare comeri l’argomento principale delle canzoni sia spesso la battaglia finale, la distruzione del male e la fine di Satana; tutto questo viene rappresentato con una forte connotazione epica. Già solo nella seconda canzone ‘In The War Against Satan’ possiamo ascoltare: "Under a funeral sky, disorder reign in the world / Jehovah show his power, Christ raise hers sword! / Thunder and lightening explode from the Heaven / The angels prepare for destroy the satanic hordes! / Il destino di Satana stà per compiersi / Cristo combatterà per noi!”
La canzone successiva rimane sullo stesso stile espressivo: “(…) Il corrotto mondo è una preda / Del ruggente delirio satanico! / Reveled the number six six six / Holy rage against the beast!! (…) Grida bestia! Grida tra le fiamme!! / Il tuo giudizio è stato decretato! / Morirai a causa del tuo errore / E di te non vi sarà mai ricordo…”
All’interno delle canzoni troveremo anche veri e proprie parti di preghiere. Un buon esempio è presente in ‘Power Of God’: “Over the mountain, over the sky / Is Your throne, my Lord / Raise Your sword and guide me / (…) Praise to your Great Name, Jehovah / Praise to your enthroned Son, Christ! / Support me with your Saint Spirit (…)”
Alla luce di tutto ciò possiamo solo aggiungere come il debutto dei Suspiria Profundis sia davvero sorprendente; è impossibile smettere di ascoltare l’album senza ricordare i suoi momenti salienti, anche considerando che in Italia la scena del black metal cristiano praticamente non esiste. Il nuovo lavoro di Azazel potrebbe accontentare prima di tutto i fan degli Horde, ma anche chi apprezza i polacchi Elgibbor, i Fire Throne o anche gli Abdijah.

Last period of Azazel’s art is very productive (creative). Among many projects he has realized so far, finally arrives to our hands this one of the most awaited–true Italian unblack metal in the presence of Suspiria Profundis. The album “In The War Against Satan” released under the wings of Sullen Records, with seven titles plus one bonus track, is a special thing as well as we consider the quantity of copies issued, which contain exactly 250 numbers. Then every copy is self-listed by the artist. Our attention attracts also the cover of the album with enormous Suspiria’s logo, written white letters on the black background, which completely took all the possible place.
The cd initiates climatic, ambiental intro ‘Prepare For War’ with blowing wind, which brings us to the adequate heart of music. ‘In The War Against Satan’ opens recitation by profound, low voice; next enter the gloomy guitars with drums tracking them. Then the melody breaks the black scream of Azazel, who seems to give a faster pace of the percussion. This scream sometimes takes a form more aggressive and remember a tearing clamor. During the song appears short, repeatedly sound of keys, which inserts the mysterious atmosphere of anxiety. Beautiful conception we’ll discover in ‘Under The Power’ with guest female vocal of Warfire. The voices collaborates well. It seems to be some union of subtle delicacy and brutal strength. Moreover it listens the calm, pleasure pulling of guitars strings too. The guest vocal appears still in third track ’Rage Against The Beast’ in the character of deep growl of Sigurd. This reinforcement gives an effect of bigger intensification, makes the song more crude. Very violent is the ‘Destroy The Satanic Pantheon’, where the scream seems to be scratchy, rough. Besides we have here also recitation in the way of manifestation. We listen colorless voices, which repeat coldly “Destroy The Satanic Force! Destroy The satanic Pantheon!” Interesting piece, worth to pay attention is ‘Power Of God’ , which reflects very accurately the style of Horde. The tempo of drums, guitars… just all elements seems to be straightly taken from this already legend of unblack metal.
If we considers the lyrics, important to signalize are two things. First that almost all texts are made as the mix of English and Italian, where sometimes scrolls latin, used for recitations. It means that for example in any single, selected piece we’ll hear the vocal in two or three languages!
Second thing touches the subject of the songs, which treat about Armageddon, evil’s destruction and the end of the satan, all this in strong epic convention. Just in the second title ‘In the War Against Satan’ we hear: ”Under a funeral sky, disorder reign in the world / Jehovah show his power, Christ raise hers sword! / Thunder and lightening explode from the Heaven / The angels prepare for destroy the satanic hordes! / Il destino di Satana stà per compiersi / Cristo combatterà per noi!”
Next song isn’t worse from the first at all: “(…) Il corrotto mondo è una preda / Del ruggente delirio satanico! / Reveled the number six six six / Holy rage against the beast!!(…) Grida bestia! Inside the, we ‘ll find also short praised elements and prayers. At the end of this what was written I can only add that Suspiria’s Profundis debut is surprising, very fresh and couldn’t go away totally without echo, especially in Italy where the christian black metal’s scene practically doesn’t exist. The new Azazel’s project could enjoy all fans of Horde as the first and between the others polish Elgibbor, Fire Throne or Abdijah.
