"Innocence" è il secondo album per i Verra Cruz.
La band è composta rispettivamente da Marc James (voce e chitarra), Jimmy Cooke (batteria) e Henry Cross (basso).
I nostri sono nativi del Regno Unito e con questo “Innocence” confermano di essere un’importante band della scena cristiana europea.
Il CD suona un hard rock potente, che a volte risente di un'influenza blues, mentre altre volte suona decisamente più alternativo.
Per lo più i Verra Cruz offrono, appunto un sound di grande impatto, dove le chitarre la fanno da padrone, creando atmosfere capaci di coinvolgere l’ascoltatore per tutta la durata del lavoro!
Il terzetto dimostra una grande capacità nel conciliare, quasi alla perfezione, un genere “pesante”, a volte “roccioso”, come l’hard rock, con l’aspetto più sacro possiamo dire, che in questo caso è tutto dentro le parole delle varie canzoni.
i Verra Cruz riescono a parlare di Dio nelle loro canzoni come poche altre band riescono a fare!
Tornando al CD in questione, “Innocence” è una miscela tra riff potenti, specie nelle prime canzoni dell’album e riff più dolci (vedi i brani di mezzo). Sound che mette in mostra tutte le qualità del gruppo; che come detto sopra trova nel frontman Marc James un vero baluardo, grazie alla sua voce e al lavoro della chitarra, con batteria e basso che rendono più solido il tutto, creando davvero un feeling speciale tra i componenti, il che può far solo che bene.
'Not In Fire' è il brano apripista del CD, subito grande impatto sonoro che ci mette sui binari dei Verra Cruz; le seguenti tre canzoni riprendono l’opener del CD.
Con ‘Friend To You’ abbiamo un cambio di marcia, infatti questo brano mostra il lato dolce della band che suona una ballata veramente bella. Seguono altri tre pezzi “lenti” che comunque riescono a mantenere vivo il lato più hard rock, il gruppo si addolcisce ma non perde la grinta nel suonare rock.
Da segnalare le ottime ‘Innocence’ e ‘She Don’t Want Him’ due canzoni veramente riuscite. Le ultime tre tracce del CD riprendono il sound dei primi pezzi, quindi sonorità più pesanti, “aggressive” rispetto alle quattro precedenti “ballate”, per concederci una visione a 360° del grande valore dei tre inglesi.
Concludendo possiamo dire che i Verra Cruz escono con un buon CD di rock. Il sound resta comunque grintoso anche nelle canzoni più dolci, più tranquille. Tra i punti di forza della band sicuramente c’è la voce di Marc James e la sua chitarra, che comunque fonde alla perfezione con il basso di Henry Cross e la batteria di Jimmy Cooke.
Bel CD sicuramente per gli appassionati del genere che però col tempo può stufare e cadere un po’ nella monotonia.
Sufficienza più che superata per questo terzo lavoro del terzetto britannico che si conferma una delle realtà più floride del rock cristiano in Europa e nel mondo!!!

"Innocence" is Verra Cruz’s second album.
Band is made up by Marc James (vocals and guitar), Jimmy Cooke (drums) and Henry Cross (bass). Coming from United Kingdom, with this new work “Innocence”, they confirm to be a main band among the christian european metal scene.
The CD has got a really heavy hard rock sound, which shows blues influences sometimes, more various and alternatives sounds otherwise.
Main feature of Verra Cruz’s style is a strong impact sound, in which the two guitars are able to create moods and feelings to catch the listener and to catch his attention along all the songs!
“Innocence” fully shows the ability of this trio to combine together, almost in a perfect way, the “heavy” hard rock with the deep holy meanings that come from each single word of the whole album.
Verra Cruz seem to speak easily with God in their songs, like very few band are (or were) able to do it before!
This album is a nice mixture of songs showing heavy riffs in the first strains, and softener ones as in the middle part of “Innocence”.
The unique sound is created by the single artists’ abilities, carried to the highest top thanks to the voice and the playing experience of the frontman Marc James. Drums and bass guitar help to make the sound stronger and solid, creating a special feeling among all the band’s members.
'Not In Fire' is the opener of the CD; great and heavy sound showing since the beginning the music features of this band. The next three songs keep the same style of the first song.
‘Friend To You’ is a change of gear: this really nice ballad shows Verra Cruz’s sweet side. The CD goes on with other three “slow” songs that, even creating a really sweet mood, are able to keep the necessary determination to maintain alive the typical hard rock sound.
‘Innocence’ and ‘She Don’t Want Him’ are two really amazing and well played songs. The last two tracks come back to the heavier patterns, harder and more aggressive sounds, to show the full value of these three english men.
Summarizing we can say that “Innocence” is a really good rock style CD, even in the sweeter and more calm songs which anyway shows a gritty sound. Marc James’s voice and his ability to play guitar are the strong points of the band which, together with Henry Cross’ bass and Jimmy Cooke’s drums, creates a really good sound.
Maybe the sore point of this work is the lack of originality that can lead the listener to get bored after a while.
