Il secondo stupendo appuntamento con il metallo Santo ad Uster comincia di mattina con i tradizionali incontri di preghiera.
Aprono la lode i nostrani Metatrone, con una stupenda versione acustica del tutto inedita e, arrangiata apposta per l’occasione, di ‘Veni Creator Spiritus’, che in questa nuova pelle acquisisce maggiore spiritualità: insomma perfetta per l’occasione.
Successivamente è il turno dei canti worship innalzati al Signore dalla band del mitico Jim La Verde, celebre bassista dei Barren Cross, qui in veste di chitarrista acustico.
Per chi non ha mai partecipato ad un avvenimento del genere, come me, devo ammettere che è un’emozione unica vedere tantissimi metallari che cantano e lodano Dio seguendo i testi delle canzoni proiettati su uno schermo. Questa rimarrà sicuramente un’immagine indelebile nei miei occhi e nel mio cuore.
A seguire arriva il momento tanto atteso: la predica del grande, in tutti i sensi, Pastor Bob Beeman, pastore protestante, fondatore della Sanctuary e persona dotata di un carisma unico e inconfondibile che oggi è indispensabile per avvicinare i giovani alla religione.
Il discorso esplicitato quest’anno dal pastore è incentrato sull’unicità di Dio e del fatto che Gesù Cristo è morto per noi, per la nostra salvezza e per tutti nostri peccati. Momento, anche questo, molto toccante e suggestivo.
Il primo pomeriggio si apre con gli ormai classici incontri e seminari con le varie band (Metatrone e Seventh Avenue i più frequentati), dove ogni gruppo spiega le motivazioni, la nascita del proprio cammino musicale/cristiano.
Ovviamente noi italiani non possiamo che seguire a flotta i conterranei Metatrone, in un appuntamento del tutto singolare che ha come tema l’amicizia. Questo si svolge in alcune aule di una chiesa evangelica nei pressi dello Stadthofsaal e vede Davide Bruno e Stefano Calvagno (addetto qui alla traduzione inglese) delucidare i presenti raccontando la propria storia e la nascita del “progetto Metatrone”.
Dopo questa bellissima parentesi è la volta delle tante interviste realizzate con Seventh Avenue, Kreyson, Drottnar, fino a quando giunge finalmente il momento tanto atteso: il sacro metal on-stage!

MORGANTEN
Il compito arduo di aprire la seconda giornata dell’EOR 2008 spetta agli svizzeri Morgarten, che per l’occasione giocano in casa e sfruttano alla perfezione questo aspetto.
La black/folk metal band, ancora a secco di lavori discografici, ma con molte canzoni in cantiere, propone infatti un mix di brani nuovi e anche più datati. A differenza degli opener del giorno precedente, Arcane Legion, l’impatto è molto più felice.
L’impressione che i Morgarten danno è davvero discreta, soprattutto per il coinvolgimento e per l’amore che ci mettono i cinque giovanissimi ragazzi, che scatenano il pubblico già su di giri per l’attesa di Seventh Avenue, Metatrone e Thy Bleeding Skies.

Le canzoni vengono accolte ottimamente dai presenti, soprattutto song potentissime e velocissime come ‘Ancestral War’ e ‘Called To The War’, che sono già sufficienti per capire di che pasta sono fatti questi “ragazzini”, che riceveranno senz’altro un ottimo plauso e successo.
Bello e unito anche il sound, che risulta anche gradevole e abbastanza comprensibile, calcolando il genere black proposto. Bravissimi davvero tutti, in modo particolare il frontman Pierric, voce e chitarra e il batterista Apou, che sfornano ritmiche e tempi micidiali.
Un aspetto che promuove pienamente i Morgarten è l’ottima coreografia che inscenano per il loro live. Costumi di pura ispirazione viking, tuniche e persino una spada conficcata in un tronco di albero tagliato, che conferiscono all’esibizione degli svizzeri una maggiore consistenza e visibilità.
Meglio di così non poteva cominciare questa serata!

HORATIO
Il cambio di sonorità è forse la cosa più affascinante all’interno di un festival metal, ed in particolar modo dell’EOR, dove si confrontano tantissime realtà e culture.
Così dopo l’esibizione dei Morgarten tocca al metalcore di un’altra giovanissima band di estrazione svizzera/francese, gli Horatio, anche se alcuni membri provengono da Irlanda, Canada e Stati Uniti.
Il loro breve ma intenso concerto si concentra sull’ ultimo lavoro MCD dal titolo “ And Now, The Choir…”. Il live scorre nel migliore dei modi e i suoni non sono affatto male, anzi risultano in alcune parti davvero gradevoli, inoltre la band si dimostra sicura dominatrice della scena nei pochi minuti del loro show.

I brani più trascinanti e ben riusciti del concerto sono ‘Good Character Vs. Bad Company’, ‘Captain, We’re Talking On Water’, ‘New Tyrant In Town’ e ‘Pretty Day For Making Thing Right’, che risultano on stage davvero potenti.
Sopra le righe la prestazione del cantante e del bravissimo batterista, che nonostante l’età giovane dimostrano un’ottima padronanza del proprio strumento e un ottima presenza scenica, che rende il tutto più professionale.
Il tempo a disposizione è abbastanza esiguo, ma nel corso di una più che buona prova, la band metalcore esce gli artigli coinvolgendo al massimo i presenti con un grande approccio allo show e una disinvoltura tipica dei veterani.
Bravi ragazzi!

DOCILE
Dopo la scoppiettante performance degli Horatio, tocca agli olandesi Docile calcare il palco dell’Elements Of Rock con il loro death/core metal.
La band formatasi nel 2005 comincia il suo cammino musicale di emozioni, energia e fede e nel 2007 rilascia il primo lavoro studio, il MCD dal titolo “Babylon Ablaze”, che gli è valso di recente la firma con la label statunitense Open Grave Records. Ed ora eccoli qui a questo EOR 2008 pronti a scaldare i timpani del pubblico con un martellante death metal moderno.
Ogni membro del gruppo per l’occasione indossa, come ormai di consueto nei live dei Docile, una maglietta nera con scritta dorata “LOVE”, come a testimoniare la fratellanza e l’amore fraterno che si respira in questa due giorni svizzera. Ma veniamo alla musica.
L’impatto è uno dei migliori del festival e i suoni appaiono subito discreti e potentissimi. Tutti i musicisti si fanno notare immediatamente per un’energia e una voglia di suonare unica e saranno loro i più coinvolgenti delle due serate.

Le canzoni presentate sono per la maggior parte estrapolate dal MCD del 2007, mentre altre due sono presentate al pubblico in forma completamente inedita, perché non figurano in nessun altro lavoro.
Le più trascinanti sono sicuramente ‘Fragile Commitment’ (la prima canzone composta dal gruppo), ‘Answer Me’, ‘Embodiment Of Lies’ e ‘Golden Stair’. Le song sono di pura matrice death metal, con influenze thrash che il più delle volte sconfinano in territori metalcore di gusto moderno.
Il concerto si chiude, infine, con la bella ‘Closed Eyes’ di influenza testamentiana che conclude al meglio l’apparizione dei Docile a questo EOR.
Bravissimi!

METATRONE
Finalmente arriva il momento tanto atteso da noi italianissimi in trasferta svizzera, l’esibizione dei siciliani Metatrone.
Da sottolineare ancora una volta che la band è l’unica rappresentate di fede cattolica in una prevalenza di religioni evangeliste e protestanti, e questa risulterà essere una componente stupenda, cioè la comunione e la condivisione di momenti di giubilo e spirituali che coinvolge tutti quanti. Aspetto che emozionerà non solo il sottoscritto, che vi prende parte per la prima volta, ma anche tutti coloro che vengono ormai numerosi da cinque anni a questo appuntamento divenuto imperdibile.
La band è molto rilassata e sicura di fare una buona prestazione, anche se dai volti traspare sicuramente un’emozione e una tensione da prima volta.
I Metatrone, come tutti sapranno, hanno avuto e stanno avendo un ottimo successo non solo in patria ma anche oltreoceano con l’album “The Powerful Hand” del 2006 uscito anche in versione italiana, e quest’oggi propongono i brani più power/prog e speed del loro repertorio con un occhio di riguardo anche all’era Metafora, moniker originale del gruppo. Ecco, ci siamo, si parte.
Il brano iniziale è ‘War Is Pain Again’, il cui titolo già dice tutto, la guerra è una piaga e una sofferenza sempre, in ogni momento. Signori, l’impatto è qualcosa di spettacolare! Suoni perfetti, pulizia sonora allo stato puro e una precisione chirurgica nell’esecuzione della canzone.
La voce, che fino a quel momento era stato il tasto più dolente delle altre band, qui risalta e spicca come non mai, complice sicuramente l’ottimo Jo Lombardo, che sforna una prova, che dire maiuscola sarebbe riduttivo, con acuti perfetti e vocalizzi vari. Pulita e non invasiva la chitarra del “saggio” Stefano Calvagno, che preferisce mandarla nelle vocali anziché riprodurla dalla testata e dalle numerose casse presenti sul palco, scelta azzeccatissima questa. Come sempre scatenati “Mr.Machine” Tony Zappa, che ci delizia con tirate di doppio pedale da corsa di cavalli e il virtuoso Virgilio Ragazzi che sarà uno dei più coinvolgenti e presi.

Mentre, in una sua quiete e beatitudine metallara stà il buon Davide Bruno con le sua tastiera pronta a creare tappeti atmosferici e assoli funambolici. Tutti i presenti fin dall’inizio dello show sono subito scatenati e presi dalla musica celestiale dei nostri.
Noi italiani, dal canto nostro, non vogliamo essere da meno ai fan dei Kreyson del giorno prima e ci facciamo sentire cantando a squarciagola, con incitamenti e cori di sostegno alla band.
Altro momento scatenante è l’esecuzione ineccepibile della velocissima ‘Mirror City Train’, che fa scattare subito un inevitabile pogo e della iper-melodica ‘One In A Million’ che fanno salire ai massimi livelli il gradimento generale.
A metà concerto noi italiani siamo già senza voce e siamo consapevoli di una cosa, i Metatrone stanno suonando divinamente e saranno tra i migliori del festival. Arriva, così, anche il momento del brano in lingua madre targato Metafora, la proggheggiante ‘Salva l’Anima’, forse una delle canzoni più difficili da suonare dal vivo, per via di continui cambi di tempo, riff e assoli. Il risultato è il medesimo e nonostante la difficoltà viene suonato senza sbavature da tutti quanti.
Il concerto volge al suo termine, per la nostra scontentezza, con l’inno al Signore per eccellenza innalzato della band siciliana, ‘The Rock’, cantata con tutto il cuore dal pubblico, che assiste così al migliore live in assoluto di questo Elements Of Rock 2008.
Che sorpresona! Grandi ragazzi!!!

THY BLEEDING SKIES
Dopo lo show stupendo dei Metatrone, facciamo davvero fatica ad immaginare un’altra performance così incisiva e ad alti livelli.
Le facce dei presenti sono già parecchio soddisfatte della serata che ancora deve in parte concludersi e aspettano con ansia la prossima performance, quella dei death metaller Thy Bleeding Skies.
La band capitanata dal cantante e chitarrista Claudio Enzler, già presente all’EOR dello scorso anno con i Sacrificium in veste di singer, ha di recente realizzato il primo album, “Chapters Of Downfall”, che sta ricevendo un’ottima accoglienza nel panorama christian metal.
Il concerto di oggi è incentrato interamente sull’ultimo lavoro studio appena citato e i brani proposti sono una miscela esplosiva di death metal e thrash sulla scia di Morbid Angel, Carcass e Testament. Potenti e cadenzati in questo senso sono ‘At The Edge’, opener track del CD, ‘Thy Bleeding Skies’ e ‘Burning Angels’, che fanno scatenare totalmente i metalhead.

I suoni e i volumi sono ottimi sotto ogni aspetto, anche se all’inizio la voce di Claudio stenta ad entrare in simbiosi con gli altri strumenti, problema destinato a sparire dopo pochi pezzi.
La band, che sarà in tour per tutta la primavera e per buona parte dell’estate, c’è la mette veramente tutta, coinvolgendo al massimo il pubblico che dal canto suo risponde come meglio non potrebbe. Tutto il gruppo mostra una maturità da palco non indifferente e un consolidamento ben affiatato, anche se gli occhi sono inevitabilmente rivolti su Mr. Enzler, divinamente trascinante con i suoi riff e i growl che rendono la prova tra le più brutali del festival.
Il concerto scorre nel migliore dei modi, senza cali di tensione e senza nessun segno di stanchezza, prova del fatto che i gruppi nel bill danno l’anima e che i presenti vogliono godersi fino in fondo questi momenti di “Holy Steel”.

SEVENTH AVENUE
Ecco giungere il momento più atteso dell’intero festival, il concerto dei teutonici Seventh Avenue, considerati i veri headliner dell’EOR e freschi di pubblicazione del nuovo stupendo album “Terium”.
Come ogni headliner che si rispetti anche la band tedesca si fa attendere e desiderare parecchio dai propri fan, anche loro numerosi. Infatti sembra quasi interminabile il tempo preso per il soundceck generale e l’adrenalina comincia a salire a mille, ma sarà tutto di guadagnato durante l’esibizione.
Calano così le luci nella sala e parte l’intro ‘Under The Surface’ sotto una pioggia di incitamenti e corna che culmina con la song di apertura di “Terium”, ‘Crowd In The Dark’, manifesto del power metal più genuino e allegro. Herbie & Co. sono veramente in formissima e il sound appare sin dai primi istanti perfetto e ottimamente bilanciato. Il pubblico impazzisce letteralmente e canta a squarciagola uno dei ritornelli più belli mai realizzati dai Seventh Avenue.
‘Terium’ è la successiva killer song tratta dall’omonimo album, power/speed song di helloweeniana memoria suonata magistralmente da tutti quanti, anche se qui, la prestazione più incisiva da sottolineare è quella del batterista Mike Pfluger, macchina da guerra dietro le pelli. Herbie da buon leader qual è, da tutto se stesso in questo live e duetta splendidamente con Flo attraverso incroci chitarristici e una presenza scenica da classici metallari.

Scatenati anche Markus Beck, bassista a metà tra Steve Harris e Billy Sheehan e il simpaticissimo “barbarossa” chitarrista turnista che gioca e si diverte con i numerosi ragazzi presenti sotto il palco.
I Seventh Avenue presentano, inoltre, una sequenza di brani estrapolati dal fortunato “Eternals”, come ‘Infinite King’ e ‘Future Tales’ che fanno venire letteralmente i brividi, e da “Between The Worlds” che emozionano non poco i nostalgici dei dischi passati. Durante la loro lunga esibizione di un’ora e un quarto, il combo crucco partorisce e confeziona uno show maiuscolo che si aggiunge all’altrettanto capolavoro sorpresa dei Metatrone.
Infine posso solo dire che dopo aver recensito più volte i Seventh Avenue, mi mancava solo la prova live per confermare quanto detto e per affermare di aver ascoltato dal vivo uno dei gruppi power metal più bravi che mi siano capitati.
Grandiosi!!

DEUTERONOMIUM
Posso comprendere perfettamente lo stato d’animo dei finlandesi Deuteronomium che si sono visti passare davanti concerti impeccabili di Seventh Avenue, Metatrone e Thy Bleeding Skies.
Ma i quattro musicisti non si fanno per questo intimorire e con il loro melodic death metal a tratti thrash intrattengono più che bene tutti noi, nonostante la stanchezza che comincia a farsi sentire dopo una giornata stupendamente frenetica. Il gruppo, inoltre, pubblicherà a breve il nuovo lavoro studio dal titolo “From The Midst Of The Battle” e proprio per l’occasione suonerà un paio di canzoni prese da questo CD.
Il concerto si apre con la scoppiettante ‘Crosshope’, brano tipicamente thrash metal divenuto ormai storico nella scaletta live della band. I metal fans dimenticano così la stanchezza e si lasciano andare a soliti poghi, incitando come possono il combo finnico che on-stage si dimostra valido e potente quanto basta.

Un plauso particolare va al giovane chitarrista Kalle Paju, che delizia tutti con scale neoclassiche provenienti direttamente dall’area scandinava e che sono ormai il vero marchio di fabbrica dei Deuteronomium. Si vede infatti che il ragazzo è il più “ingessato” di tutti e questo è sicuramente dovuto ad un impostazione classica che tanto si sente nel tocco.
Ottima anche la performance del cantante/chitarrista Miika Partala, che dagli atteggiamenti fa ricordare non poco il buon Dimbag Darrel e del bassista Manu Lehtinen completamente scatenato.
Altri brani da sottolineare per l’ottima realizzazione e per la loro verve sono il testamenti ano ‘To Die And Gain’, ‘Spell Of Hell’ e la bellissima ‘Northern Praise’ che portano alla sua conclusione un bello ed intenso concerto.
Aspettiamo il nuovo album!

MONOBLOCK
Il compito di chiudere in bellezza questo Elements Of Rock 2008 spetta ai tedeschi Monoblock, con il loro gothic metal in lingua madre.
La stanchezza di un festival goduto a 360° è palpabile nel volto di tutti quanti e la sala si comincia a svuotare a poco a poco, ma ormai più irriducibili, tra cui noi, fanno un ultimo sforzo per sostenere anche questa band nella loro esposizione musicale.
I sei ragazzi c’è la mettono tutta per non far rimpiangere le esibizioni passate e dimostrano di essere completamente a loro agio sul palco, non preoccupandosi affatto del mancanza di pubblico.
Ottime le esecuzioni di classici della band come la superba ‘Rattenmenschenmassen’, che risente tantissimo dell’influsso di Nightwish e After Forever e della più cadenzata ‘Ein Kindertraum’, estrapolate entrambe dall’ultimo bel lavoro “Kinderaugenblicke” del 2006.

In spolvero i due singer Stefanie Steinert e Franz Steinert che duettano più che bene e che si fanno anche notare per i numerosi headbaning effettuati durante il live. Bravo anche il tastierista Ingo Höbald che tesse delle ottime melodie e tappeti atmosferici di nordica memoria.
In definitiva un discreto show che viste le condizioni di spossatezza e di attenzione da parte di tutti è andato bene e conclude in modo decoroso uno degli appuntamenti heavy metal più belli a cui io abbia mai assistito.
Una kermesse a cui vale veramente la pena partecipare almeno una volta e che consiglio di cuore a tutti i fans e appassionati di christian metal.

The second wonderful appointment with the Saint metal at Uster started during the morning with the traditional praying meetings.
Metatrone, opened the praise, with a wonderful unpublished acoustic version arranged for the occasion, of the song Veni Creator Spiritus, that in this new way it acquired major spirituality : in short perfect for the occasion.
Then it was the turn of the worship songs lifted up to the Lord by the band of the mythical Jim La Verde, famous Barren Cross bass player, there playing like an acoustic guitar player.
For all the people who’d never participated to a such event, like me, I must admit that it was a unique occasion watching so many heavy metal freaks who sang and praised God following the lyrics projected on a screen. That will remain surely an unforgettable image in my eyes and in my heart. .
Then it came the time so much waited: the sermon of the great Pastor Bob Beeman , a pastor founder of Sanctuary and person with a unique carisma and unmistakable that today is indispensable to make the young men near to the realigion. The discourse made by the pastor this year was focused on the uniqueness of God and by the fact that Jesus died for us and for our safety and for all our sins. A very suggestive and touching moment.
The first afternoon opened with the classic meetings and seminaries with the bands (Metatrone and Seventh Avenue the most frequented ) , and every band explained reasons and the born of their musical/Christian path.
We stayed with Metatrone which made a singular appointment with a theme regarding the friendship. The meeting was made in a room inside an evangelic church near to Stadthofsaal. Davide Bruno and Stefano Calvagno explained (addicted overthere to the English translation ) to the people their history and the birth of the “Metatrone project”.
After that beautiful parenthesis , it was the time of the interviews made with Seventh Avenue, Kreyson, Drottnar, till the time so much waited: the holy metal on-stage !

MORGANTEN
The swiss Morgarten had the hard job to open the second day of EOR 2008, that for this occasion they played in their country and they played wonderfully taking advantage of this aspect.
The black/folk metal band, yet poor of recording works, but with a lot of songs in production, proposed a mix of new songs and also older ones. The impact was much better than the opener band of the previous day, Arcane Legion.
The impression I received about Morgarten was really discrete, above all for the involvement and the passion they gave , amusing the public that was waiting above all for the Seventh Avenue band , Betatrone and The Bleezing Skies.
The songs were appreciated a lot by the present people, above all the very powerful and speed songs like ‘Ancestral War’ and ‘Called To The War’, that were just enough sufficient to understand their cleverness, receiving then an excellent applause and success.

Nice and unite the sound, which resulted also enjoyable and enough comprehensible, despite the proposed genre. Everyone were really good, in particular manner the front man Pierric, leader voice and guitar player, and the drum player Apou, producing rhythmical and deadly times.
An aspect that promoted fully the Morgarten band was the excellent coreography during their live. Costumes of Viking pure inspiration, tunics and even a sword hammered in a stock of cut tree, which made the exhibition of the swiss band a major consistence and visibility.
Better than this, it couldn’t begin this evening!

HORATIO
The change of sonorities it’s maybe the most charming thing inside a metal festival, and in particular manner in EOR, where different realities and cultures are compared with themselves.
So after the exhibition of Morgarten it was the turn to the metalcore of another young band with swiss/French connotation, Horatio, even if some members came from Irland, Canada and United States.
Their short but intense concert was concentrated on their last MCD titled “And Now, The Choir… “
The live show went to the best of ways and the sounds were good, they result in some parts really pleasant, moreover the band showed itself like a sure mistress of the scene just after few minutes during their live show.

The successful songs were ‘Good Character Vs. Bad Company’, ‘Captain, We’re Talking On Water’, ‘New Tyrant In Town’ and ‘Pretty Day For Making Thing Right’ that resulted really powerful.
Really good the singer and the drum player, that unless the young age demonstrated an excellent domination of their instrument and an excellent presence in the scene, that made everything more professional.
The time at their disposal was enough slender, but along their good proof, this band involved a lot the present people with a good approach to the show and a self-possession typical of veteran bands.
Good job guys !

DOCILE
After the great performance of Horatio , it was the turn of the duch band Docile playing at Elements of Rock with their death/core metal.
The band formed in 2005 started its musical path with emotions, energy and faith and in 2007 they produced their first MCD titled “Babylon Ablaze”, that procured them the contract with the American label Open Grave Records. And so here they were at EOR 2008 ready to heat the eardrums of the public with a modern death metal .
Each member of the band wore for the occasion, like an habit during the Docile live shows, a black t-shirt with the golden writing “LOVE”, as testifying the brotherhood and the love among brothers that we could breath during those two days in Switzerland. But let’s come to the music.
The impact was one of the best of the festival and the sounds appeared discreet and powerful. All the musicians had an energy and a will of playing unique and they would have been the most involving ones of the two evenings. I must underline the unrestrained singer JJ De Vries that sings with the movements of Phil Anselmo of the best times with the twisting of the microphone cable and the singing parts completely lying on the floor: really an animal of stage. But in general all the band gave the soul in this exhibition with continuous headbanging and typical moves of death metal freaks.

The songs showed were for the most part extrapolated from MCD of 2007, while the others two songs were presented to the public in form completely unplublished, because they don’t appear in any other work.
The best ones were surely ‘Fragile Commitment’ (the first song composed by the band), ‘Answer Me’, ‘Embodiment Of Lies’ and ‘Golden Stair’. The songs were in death metal pure matrix, with thrash influences that most of times digress into metalcore fields of modern connotation.
The concert ended, at last with the beautiful ‘Closed Eyes’ with testament influences that closed in the best way the Docile live show at this EOR.
Very good!

METATRONE
Finally it arrived the moment so much waited from us Italians in swiss, the exhibition of the Sicilians Metatrone.
I must underline yet a time that the band is the only one that represents the catholic faith in a prevalence of evangelist and protestant religions, and this would have been a wonderful component, the communion and the sharing of moments of jubilation and spirituals that involved everyone aspect that would have taken emotion not only to me, that participated for the first time, but also to all of ones that had been coming for 5 years, to this appointment become important for them.
The band was very relaxed and sure to make a good live show, even if from the faces was evident surely an emotion and a tension like if it was the first time.
Metatrone, as everyone knows, had and they’re having an excellent success not only in our country but also beyone the ocean with the album “The Powerful Hand” made in 2006 sold also in Italian version and in EOR proposed songs power/prog and speed from their repertoire with a eye of regard to the Metafora era, original moniker of the band.
The first song was ‘War Is Pain Again’ , the title just tells everything, the war is a sore and always a sufferance, in every moment. The impact was something spectacular ! Perfect sounds, clean sounds and a chirurgic precision in the execution of the song.
The voice that till to that moment was the most aching button than the other bands, overthere stood out like ever, accomplice surely the excellent Jo Lombardo, that showed a proof, that saying It in upper case would be reductive, with perfect acute and various vocalises. Clean and not invasive the guitar of the “wise” Stefano Calvagno, who preferred send it to the vocals instead of reproducing it from the head and from the numerous cases present on the stage, right choose this one.

Like always very wild “Mr. Machine” Tony Zappa, that delights us with the drum and the virtuous Virgilio Ragazzi that was very involving.
While in a quiet and beatitude was Davide Bruno with his keyboard ready to create atmospheric carpets and acrobatic solos. All the present people since the beginning of the show were just wild and taken by the celestial music of this band.
Another bursting moment was the execution of the speed ‘Mirror City Train’, that made enjoying a lot the people and the very melodic ‘One In A Million’ that made coming up to the high levels the general pleasure.
At the middle of the concert me and my Italian friends were without voice and we were conscious of a thing, Metatrone were playing like gods and they would have been one of the best bands of the festival. It arrived, so, also the moment of the song in Italian signed Metafora, the prog song ‘Salva L’Anima’ maybe one of the most difficult songs to play at live show, the continuous changes of time, riff and solos. The result was the same and despite the difficulties it was played without mistakes by everyone.
The concert came to the end with our sadness, with the hymn to the Lord, ‘The Rock’, sung with all the heart by the public, that watched the best live show in this Elements Of Rock 2008.
What a big surprise! Great guys!!!

THY BLEEDING SKIES
After the wonderful show of Metatrone, we had difficulty to imagine another performance so much incisive and at high levels.
The faces of the people were just enough satisfied of the evening that had yet to end and they wait with anxiety the following performance, the one of the death metal freaks Thy Bleeding Skies.
The band leaded by the singer and guitar player Claudio Enzler, just present at EOR of the last year with the Sacrificium band like singer, has recently realized the first album, “Chapter Of Downfall”, that is receiving an excellent welcome in the christian metal panorama.
The concert at EOR 2008 was focused entirely on the last studio work just cited and the proposed songs were an explosive mix of death metal and thrash on the line of Morbid Angel, Carcass and Testament. Powerful and cadences in this sence were ‘At The Edge’, opener track of the CD, ‘Thy Bleeding Skies’ e ‘Burning Angels’, that made enjoying completely the metal heads.

The sounds and volumes were excellent under every aspect, even if at the beginning the voice of Claudio had difficulty to enter in symbiosis with the other instruments, problem destined to disappear after few songs.
The band that would have been in tour for all the spring and it will be in tour for a big part of the summer, devotes itself a lot, involving at the maximum the public that answers as the best of ways. All the band shows a considerable maturity on stage even if the eyes were inevitably toward Mr.Enzler, divinely involving with his riffs and the growl that made the proof among the most brutal of the festival.
The concert flew in the best of ways, without drops of tension and without signs of tiredness, considering that the bands of the bill gave the soul and the present people want to enjoy until to the end these moments of “Holy Steel”.

SEVENTH AVENUE
So it came the most waited moment of the whole festival , the concert of the teutonic Seventh Avenue, considered the real headliner of EOR and fresh of the publication of the new wonderful album “Terium”.
Like every headliner, also the german band kept their fans waiting a lot, also them numerous. Infact it seemed never ending the time dedicated to the general sound check and the adrenaline started to increase but it would have been all earned during the exhibition.
On the stage the lights drop and it started the intro ‘Under The Surface’ under a rain of incitement and horns that ends with the opening song of “Terium” , ‘Crowd In The Dark’, manifest of the most genuine and funny power metal manifesto del power metal. Herbie & Co. w ere really good and the sound appeared since the first moments , perfect and excellently balanced. The public got literally crazy and sang at high voice one of the most beautiful and realized refrains by Seventh Avenue.
‘Terium’ was the following killer song by the homonymous album, power/speed song with helloween connotations played magisterially from everyone, even if there, the most incisive exhibition to underline belonged to the drum player Mike Pflunger, war machine behind the skins. Herbie like good leader, gave all himself in this live show and made a wonderful duet with Flo through guitar crosses and a scenic presence like classic heavy metal freaks.

Wild also Markus Beck, bass guitar player good like Steve Harris and Billy Sheehan, and the very nice “red moustache” guitar player that played and enjoyed with the numerous guys present under the stage.
Seventh Avenue presented, moreover, a sequence of songs extrapolated by the lucky “Eternals”, like ‘Infinite King’ and ‘Future Tales’ that made coming literally the shivers, and from “Between The Worlds” which deeply moved not few the nostalgic people of the last discs. During their exhibition length an hour and a quarter, the german band had an upper case show that added itself to the masterpiece of Metatrone.
At the end I can only say that after reviewed more times Seventh Avenue, I missed only the proof live of them to confirm what I said in the past and to affirm to have listened by live one the most beautiful power metal that I’ve ever seen.
Great!!!

DEUTERONOMIUM
I can see perfectly the state of soul of the finnish Deuteronomium that watched before them impeccable concerts of Seventh Avenue, Metatrone and Thy Bleeding Skies.
But the four musicians weren’t frightened by this and with their melodic death metal sometimes thrash entertained very well all of us, despite the tiredness that started to appear after a day wonderfully frenetic. The band will publish shortly the new work studio titled “From The Midst Of The Battle” and for this occasion will play a pair of songs of this CD.
The concert opened with the bursting ‘Crosshope’, song typically thrash metal become just history in the live bill of the band. The metal fans forgot the tiredness and they let themselves freely to the joy to be there, inciting the finnish band that on-stage demonstrated itself valid and enough powerful.

A special mention goes to the young guitar player Kalle Paju, that delices everyone with neo classic scales coming directly from the Scandinavian area and that at least they are the real brand of factory of Deutoronomium. We could notice that the guys had a classic set in his touch playing the guitar.
Excellent also the performance of the singer/guitar player Miika Partala, that with the poses made us remembering the good Dimbag Darrel and the bass guitar player Manu Lehtinen completely wild.
Other songs to underline for the excellent realization were To Die And Gain’, ‘Spell Of Hell’ and the beautiful ‘Northern Praise’ which take to the conclusion a beautiful and intense concert.
We are waiting for the new album!

MONOBLOCK
The job to close in beauty this Element Of Rock 2008 is for the german Monoblock, with their gothic metal in mother language.
The tiredness of a festival enjoyed at 360 degrees is noticeable by the face of all the people and the hall became empty time by time, but at least more irreducible, for us that made a last effort to sustain also this band in their musical exhibition.
The six guys made a lot to not make regret the last exhibitions and they demonstrated to be completely at their leisure on the stage, without worrying at all for the missing of the public.
Excellent the executions of the classics of the band with the superb ‘Rattenmenschenmassen’ with Nightwish influences and After Forever and the more cadenced ‘Ein Kindertraum’ both of them extrapolated by the last production “Kinderaugenblicke” of 2006.

The two singers Stefanie Steinert and Franz Steinert made a duet very good and they were noticed above all for the numerous headbanging made during the live show. Good also the keyboard player Ingo Höbald that played excellent melodies and atmospheric carpets of Nordic memory.
After all a discreet show that considering the tired conditions and attention of all the people, it was really good and it ended in a decorous manner one the most beautiful heavy metal appointments I’ve never watched.
A kermesse that everyone needs to partecipate at least a time and that I suggest deeply to all the fans appassionated of christian metal.
