Mad Max

Nel corso di un mini tour organizzato dai Mad Max in Italia che ha toccato le date di Bologna, Prato, Mozzate e Verona abbiamo l’occasione di seguire la performance fatta in quel del Motorocks di Mozzate, terza data dell’avventura della band.
L’occasione è il consueto concerto annuale del sito www.hardsounds.it (ed in questo senso si ringrazia il mitico Zorro che ci ha permesso di gustare nuovamente i Mad Max in Italia), in particolare la seconda serata dedicata all’hard rock, mentre la serata di venerdì 4 aprile era dedicata all’epic metal.
Oltre ai Mad Max si sono esibiti gli hard rocker Homerun e i PlanetHard (questi ultimi davvero in gamba, con un singer, Sivo, di caratura superiore), che però non essendo christian, non verranno approfonditi in questa sede.
Veniamo invece al concerto dei Mad Max, che forti ormai di due album dalla reunion e un MCD tornano sui palchi italiani dopo il concerto tenuto nel dicembre del 2006 a Roma durante il Rock On Christmas festival che HolySteel ha seguito e documentato con un approfondito report.

Questa volta troviamo alla batteria, nella formazione dei nostri, un sostituto in quanto Axel Kruse si trova negli stessi giorni in tour con i Jaded Heart; il batterista che ci troviamo di fronte è però un più che degno sostituto in quanto si tratta di Jos Zoomer, in forza nei Vanderberg, il quale darà prova della sua abilità eseguendo anche, sul finale del concerto, un ottimo quanto breve assolo.
Lo show inizia con due estratti dal primo album della reunion, ossia “Night Of White Rock” ed in particolare con la cadenzata ‘Homeless’ e l’inno ‘Hope To See You’, una song che si fa cantare ed amare dopo solo trenta secondi di ascolto. Dal vivo come già era successo a Roma, l’effetto di questo pezzo è significativo.
Sottilineiamo come, sin dalle prime battute, il chitarrista Jurgen Breforth e il grande singer e chitarrista Michael Voss apprezzino molto lo sbattimento sotto palco dei loro fan.

I nostri, nonostante l’età e l’esperienza, sembrano ancora divertirsi, anche in piccolo club come il Motorocks di Mozzate che in questa serata li ospita.
A questo punto della scaletta inizia un mix di scelte fra il passato remoto dei nostri, quando non suonavano christian hard rock, e le recenti release. Si inizia con il classico ‘Night Of Passion’, un ottimo hard rock emozionante e anch’esso perfetto per l’esecuzione live.
E’ quindi il turno di dar spazio alla produzione dell’ultimo disco con l’ottimo inno ‘Family Of Rock’, che anch’esso risulta ottimo per il live. Sempre di “White Sands” i nostri eseguono ‘Someone Like You’ e non manca anche un estratto dal MCD di acustici “In White”, ossia l’ottima Open The Eyes’, qui resa in versione elettrica; si tratta di una vera e propria preghiera che rappresenta l’animo più cristiano ed evangelizzatore del gruppo.

Subito dopo inizia un vero e proprio salto nel passato remoto dei nostri e non mancano le sorprese quando Michael Voss annuncia che verrà eseguita anche ‘Hollywood Angels’, un hit melodico di grande effetto dei Casanova, altra band in cui il singer si è impegnato. Possiamo poi ascoltare anche un estratto dal classico “Stormchild” (1985), ossia l’opener ‘Never Say Never’, una cavalcata di ottimo heavy metal. A chiudere il live arriva, dopo l’assolo alla batteria di Jos Zoomer, la potentissima e veloce ‘War’, senz’altro la song più tosta scritta dai nostri dalla reunion, che espone una solida linea ritmica, ben sottolineata dal batterista e dal bassista Roland Bergamnn, sempre attento anche nelle backing vocal.
Sembra che il concerto sia finito ma i nostri tornano ancora una volta sul palco per eseguitre la cover degli Sweet intitolata ‘Fox On The Run’ che da tempo suonano on stage. Unica nota negativa è l’estromissione dal set list di ‘Little Princess’ e ‘We Fight In White’ (in particolare per quest’ottimo pezzo, un vero macigno di hard rock), due song di “White Sands”. Nel complesso un ottimo e divertente concerto, anche se era evidente come nella seconda parte dello show Michael alla voce si sia un po’ trattenuto per non rischiare le prossime date. Grandi Mad Max che dimostrano sempre di essere “in palla” ed in grado di fornire spettacoli molto professionali.

During the short tour organized by Mad Max in Italy who played in Bologna, Prato, Mozzate and Verona we had the occasion to follow their performance at Motorockas in Mozzate (Como) , third date of the band’s adventure.
This occasion was made for the usual annual festival of the website www.hardsounds.it (and in this sense we thank the mythical ‘Zorro’ for giving us the opportunity to watch yet a time Mad Max in Italy), in particular the second evening dedicated to had rock, while the previous day, Friday 4th April, was dedicated to epic metal. Other than Mad Max, the hard rockers Homerun and PlanetHard played (these last one were really cool, with a singer, Sivo, with an higher share than the last time), but them, not being Christian, they won’t be deepened in this review.
Let’s talk right now however about the Mad Max concert, a band strong at least with two albums from their reunion and an MCD, they returned on the Italian stages after a concert made in December 2006 in Rome during the Rock On Christmas festival followed and documented by HolySteel with a deepened report.

This time we found like drummer, a substitute person cause Axel Kruse was in the same days in tour with Jaded Heart band; however we are in front of a drummer that is a right substitute like him, and he is Jos Zoomer, drummer of Vanderberg band, who demonstrated his ability also playing a short and excellent solo.
The show started with two songs from their first album “Night Of White Rock” and in particular the cadenced ‘Homeless’ and the hymn ‘Hope To See You’, a song that made us singing and loving it just after thirty seconds of listening. At live, as it happened in Rome, the effect of this song was significant.
We underline how, since the beginning, the guitar player Jurgen Breforth and the great singer and guitar player Michael Voss appreciated the enjoying by their fans in front of their stage.

Mad Max band, despite their age and experience, seemed yet to enjoy, also in a little club like Motorockas in Mozzate which during that evening gave hospitality to them.
At this point of the songs list, they began with a mix of choices from the remote past when they didn’t play christian hard rock music, and the recent releases. They started with the classic ‘Night Of Passion’, an excellent and emotional hard rock song and perfect too for the live execution. It was then the turn to give space to the production of their last album with the excellent hymn ‘Family Of Rock’ , that it resulted excellent too for the live . Always from the album “White Sand” Mad Max band played ‘Someone Like You’ and it didn’t miss also some acoustic songs from the MCD “In White” , like the excellent song ‘Open The Eyes’, here made in electric version; it is a real prayer which represents the most christian soul and evangelist of the band.

Soon it started a real jump to the remote past and it didn’t miss the surprises when Michael Voss announced that would have been executed also ‘Hollywood Angels’, a melodic hit of big effect of the Casanova band, in which the singer played in the past. We could listen also an extract from the classic “Stormchild” (1985), the opener ‘Never Say Never’, a ride of excellent heavy metal. To close the live it arrived, after the solo playing of the drummer Jos Zoomer, the powerful and speed song ‘War’, nothing less than the coolest song written by Mad Max since their reunion, which exposed a rhythmic solid line, well underlined by the drummer and by the guitar bass player Roland Bergmann, always careful to the backing vocals.
It seemed that the concert was arrived to the end, but Mad Max returned yet a time on the stage to play the cover Sweet’s song titled ‘Fox On The Run’ that since a lot they had been playing on stage. The unique negative mark is that they excluded from the songs list ‘Little Princess’ and ‘We Fight In White’ (in particular , a real stone of hard rock), two songs from the album ‘White Sand’. In general an excellent and funny concert, even if it was evident how in the second part of the show Michael at the voice restrained himself for a few to not risk the following dates. Great Mad Max who demonstrated always to be cool and to be able to supply very professional shows.
